Chi Lang commune was established by merging Dong Mo town, Chi Lang town, and Chi Lang commune. Currently, the commune has 36 villages with over 28,000 people. The people in the area mainly engage in agriculture and small and medium-sized businesses. After the merger, the criteria are evaluated on a larger scale, requiring more systematic and balanced investment across all areas of the commune.
Therefore, immediately after the merger, the commune promptly implemented a set of solutions for production development. Based on the existing advantages in the area, the commune focused on encouraging people to switch to high -economic- value crops that are suitable to the natural conditions.
Mr. Vi Van Dung, Party Secretary and Head of Lang Don village, said: "The village has 70 households and 320 inhabitants. Following the policies of the commune's Party Committee and government, we have intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage villagers to change their crop structure and develop custard apple cultivation models. At the same time, we have coordinated with organizations and businesses to introduce job opportunities to the people in the village. Currently, the commune has over 31 hectares of fruit trees, and 30 laborers are working in companies in Bac Ninh province... Thanks to this, people's incomes have increased, and there are no poor households in the village."
Similarly, the people of Quan Bau - Dong Ngau village are also actively developing economic models. Ms. Phung Thi Bao, from Quan Bau - Dong Ngau village, said: "Recognizing that growing pomelos brings higher economic value than growing corn or rice, in 2017, my family invested in planting pomelos and expanded over the years. To date, my family has 200 green pomelo trees, 130 Dien pomelo trees, and 70 orange trees. On average, each year, my family harvests and sells about 6 tons of green pomelos, 6,000-7,000 Dien pomelos, and 700 kg of oranges, with a total value of over 200 million VND."
Along with developing production, the People's Committee of the commune has focused on developing cooperative economics and production linkages to expand markets. Currently, the commune has 16 cooperatives operating in the fields of agriculture and services, helping people exchange production experiences, link product consumption, and at the same time, create jobs and increase income for local people.
In 2025, the People's Committee of the commune coordinated with the Provincial Employment Service Center to organize job fairs in the commune to increase employment opportunities for local workers. Currently, the total number of employed people in the commune is 15,062, accounting for 82.10% of the total working-age population. Thanks to these solutions, the average per capita income in the commune has reached 45.75 million VND/person/year, and the poverty rate has decreased to 1.3%.
In parallel, to ensure balanced development across all areas, in 2025, the commune implemented the construction of over 700 meters of rural roads, with a total cost of 565 million VND. Of this, 300 million VND was contributed by the people in terms of materials and labor. In addition, the Commune People's Committee also directed the villages to regularly maintain activities such as trimming trees, cleaning village roads and alleys, and protecting the environment.
To date, Chi Lang commune has achieved 16 out of 19 criteria for New Rural Development. The criteria that have not yet been met include: planning, income, national defense and security.
Mr. Hoang Minh Dung, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Chi Lang commune, said: In the coming time, the department will continue to advise the commune on implementing solutions to complete the unmet criteria, prioritizing the implementation of criteria related to production development to increase people's income, integrating production support programs with the New Rural Development program. At the same time, we will continue to promote and encourage people to change the crop structure, improve product productivity and quality, and develop production linked to product consumption...
With the proactive efforts of the Party committee and government, and the endeavors of the people, we are confident that Chi Lang commune will soon complete the criteria for New Rural Development, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and improving the lives of people in the area.
