The park is near the river. The wind carries moisture, making everything cool and peaceful. Far away in the middle of the river, small waves ripple and shift, reflecting the sparkling light. The river's surface shines with a beauty like a peach-pink silk cloth.
Along the winding paths that hug the water's edge, several young women strolled leisurely. Their jet-black, fragrant hair fluttered playfully in the breeze. It's often the case that, to enjoy the cool air, people not only seek out places with wind and greenery, but groups of friends also gather and explore quiet, peaceful spaces.
Sometimes, family members might pile into a car and drive around the city. This free and spontaneous route provides a relaxing feeling when the body craves fresh air and rest.
I remember back in my hometown, people didn't need to go far to enjoy the cool breeze. A few small chairs, sometimes just an old mat spread out on the porch, and everyone would gather together to chat and have fun while waiting for dinner.
Father told stories of farming, mother of the market, and grandmother of livestock. Meanwhile, the children laughed, chasing each other towards the garden as darkness fell. Time slowed. Everywhere, the air was filled with the scent of ripe fruits like jackfruit, longan, guava, mango, and custard apple… The wind carried the smell of wild grass, earth, cool water, and ripe rice from the fields in front of the house, blending together and flowing into the yard, creating a sweet, intoxicating aroma.
Everywhere you look, the summer afternoon sky is vast and boundless, with clouds constantly shifting and drifting lazily by. The setting sun paints the grass, trees, roads, and rows of tall buildings with simple shades of yellow and orange. The streets seem spacious and gentle.
On my way home from work, I came across elderly people and children gathered under the trees, chatting. A pot of fragrant tea, cheerful laughter—time seemed to slow down.
I told myself that elderly people, no matter where they are, are always content and know how to live. Whether in the spacious countryside or the limited space of the city, these old men and women still slow down to listen, to love, and to converse. In the fading twilight, they know how to make time for each other and for their children and grandchildren.
And someday, amidst the hustle and bustle of life, in the crowded rhythm of an increasingly overloaded and chaotic city, who knows, what each person will remember most will be those peaceful, quiet summer afternoons spent with loved ones.
