TPO – In mid-October, the weather in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces and cities will generally have rain, scattered showers in many places. There will likely be widespread rain with some places having moderate, heavy to very heavy rain lasting for a few days.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the afternoon and evening of yesterday (October 12), the Southern region had scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy rain. The rainfall from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on October 12 was over 50mm in some places, such as: Bac Dong (Tien Giang) 79.2mm, Tay Ninh City (Tay Ninh) 65.6mm, Phu Thanh (Dong Thap) 61.8mm, Ben Cat ( Binh Duong ) 57.0mm, ...

It is forecasted that this afternoon and evening (October 13), the Southern region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 10 - 30mm, locally over 50mm.

Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rain may cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams; and landslides on steep slopes.

Meanwhile, assessing the weather situation in Ho Chi Minh City in mid-October, the Southern Hydrometeorological Station said that the continental cold high pressure is currently stable and will gradually weaken from around October 14-15.

The equatorial low pressure trough around October 15-16 tends to become active again and slowly lifts its axis to the north. The upper easterly wind disturbance (causing rain) is active well in the Southern region. In the southern sea areas, the northeasterly wind is active with weak intensity.

From the above main weather patterns, the Southern Hydrometeorological Station forecasts that the weather in Ho Chi Minh City in mid-October will generally have rain, scattered showers in many places. There will likely be widespread rain with some places having moderate, heavy to very heavy rain lasting for a few days. The total rainfall is generally higher than the average of many years in the same period, from 90 - 160mm.

“Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. Beware of heavy rain causing localized flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage capacity,” the Southern Hydrometeorological Station noted.
