Having run a seafood business for over 10 years with four kiosks at the Cam Thuy ward's fish market, Ms. Do Thi Dung, upon receiving a notice from the Cam Pha City People's Committee, ceased all operations at the fish market and relocated to Ben Do Market. At the new market, Ms. Dung's business, as well as that of other small traders, has begun to stabilize. Ms. Do Thi Dung stated: "As a wholesale seafood business, in the first few days after moving to Ben Do Market, some customers from other localities were unfamiliar with the location, causing some difficulties. However, after nearly a week, things have stabilized, and the volume of goods is guaranteed. The new market is much cleaner than the fish market area."
Along with stable operations, small traders in the fishing port area, upon relocating to Ben Do market, have also expanded their customer base in the local community. Ms. Bui Thi Hong Duyen, a small trader running a pharmacy, said: "Previously, I and many other businesses selling consumer goods and dried goods at the fishing port mainly served the needs of fishermen on boats and people on the islands. But since moving to Ben Do market, in addition to our existing customers, we also sell to local residents, so our goods are sold more."
With much more favorable conditions than the old fishing port area, and the Ben Do market investor also supporting business owners in relocating from the fishing port to the new market by covering all kiosk rental costs, the city's initiative received strong support and serious implementation from the small traders. From April 10th, all 250 small traders from the Cam Thuy ward fishing port have moved to conduct business at Ben Do market.
Mr. Hoang Huu Luu, Director of Cam Pha Construction and Beer, Wine and Soft Drink Production Joint Stock Company, the investor of Ben Do Market, said: Ben Do Market was inaugurated at the end of 2011. After 14 years of being unused, some areas have deteriorated. Following the city's policy, the company has promptly organized repairs to the electrical, water, wastewater, fire safety, and security systems, and arranged the product areas logically to serve both as a traditional market and a wholesale seafood market. At the same time, additional areas have been set up to serve the needs of small fishermen bringing their seafood to the market. Since its reopening on April 10th, all traders have been doing stable business. The residents, the community, and our businesses are all delighted that Ben Do Market is finally operational again after 14 years.
In the Cam Thuy ward's fishing port area, businesses have basically completed the dismantling of their structures. The transshipment of goods from fishing vessels is still temporarily permitted from 10 PM the previous day to 5 AM the following day.
