Binh Chau commune (Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province) is famous for its "ancient shipwreck graveyard". The Binh Chau sea area has dozens of ancient shipwrecks, many of which have been salvaged, revealing thousands of valuable artifacts.
In Binh Chau, there is also a unique fish market located right on the beach. Every day, hundreds of traders from all over buy fish here to sell throughout the province.

Binh Chau commune has over 400 fishing boats, with two-thirds of its population making a living from the sea. Of these, about 200 boats are engaged in near-shore fishing.
Around 5 am, the inshore fishing boats dock to sell their catch. These boats mainly fish around Ly Son Island. They set sail the day before, fish throughout the night, and return to shore the next day.

The fish are caught near the shore, so they are quite fresh and delicious. Therefore, every day 40-60 small traders from districts and cities in the province come here to buy fish for retail sale. A portion of the fish is also purchased and sent to the Central Highlands provinces for consumption.

The fishing boat docked about 100 meters from the shore. The boat owner had people use small boats to transfer the fish ashore.

As soon as the baskets of fish arrived at the dock, dozens of small traders rushed to select and buy them, creating a bustling scene.

Ms. Tran Thi Linh (Quang Ngai City) arrived at the fish market early in the morning. After about an hour, she bought 40kg of fish. She will take this fish back to Quang Ngai City to sell retail. "The fish are caught near the shore, so they are very fresh, and the price is cheap. I have to travel 30km to get to the market; although it's far, buying here to resell makes a profit," Ms. Linh said.

The Binh Chau fish market also provides employment for many female workers. The jobs of carrying and sorting fish for hire help each person earn 150,000-200,000 VND in a morning.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Chairman of the Binh Chau Fishery Union, the commune's near-shore fishing fleet operates very efficiently. These vessels fish daily, resulting in low costs and minimal risk. The seafood caught is sold immediately upon docking.
"The inshore fishing fleet creates many jobs for local people. Fishermen who fish near the shore can earn 400,000-500,000 VND per day," Mr. Hung informed.
