According to AppleInsider , Apple is developing 15 different Mac computer models. These products will utilize M5 and M6 processors and are expected to launch between the end of this year and 2026.

Currently, most Macs are equipped with the M4 processor, with the newest devices including the MacBook Air and Mac Studio (released in March). However, Apple has quickly begun developing the next generation, including the less popular Mac Pro model.

While the M5 generation primarily focused on performance improvements, devices with the M6 chip are expected to feature significant design changes, particularly the 2026 MacBook Pro. Here is a detailed list of the models currently under development by Apple.

MacBook Pro and MacBook Air M5

Apple tends to launch MacBook Pro models in the fall. Late last year, Apple unveiled the MacBook Pro with the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips. The Mac mini was also upgraded with the M4 and M4 Pro chips, while the iMac featured the M4 chip.

Based on rumors, the company may introduce the MacBook Pro M5 around the same timeframe. Currently, Apple is testing a device with the codename J873s. It is speculated that this could be the Mac mini M5 Pro, as the M4 Pro version has the codename J773s.

Apple is also likely to launch MacBook Pro models with M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips later this year. Based on rumors, the devices will only have upgraded specifications, with the design remaining the same.

Currently, Apple is developing four MacBook Pro model names: J714c (14-inch MacBook Pro M5 Max), J714s (14-inch MacBook Pro M5 Pro), J716c (16-inch MacBook Pro M5 Max), and J716s (16-inch MacBook Pro M5 Pro).

According to AppleInsider , these model numbers match the current MacBook Pro M4, including J614c, J614s, J716c, and J716s, meaning there won't be many design changes. However, the internal hardware is likely to be significantly upgraded.

Regarding the release date, the MacBook Pro M5 is expected to launch at the same time as the iPad Pro M5 and the Apple Vision Pro M5.

Following the MacBook Pro M5, Apple may introduce two MacBook Air models in early 2026. Similarly, the MacBook Air M5 will retain the same design as its predecessor, with a slim and lightweight form factor and a notch at the top of the screen.

Internally, the MacBook Air M5 was codenamed J813 and J815, corresponding to the 13-inch and 15-inch versions. Currently, the MacBook Air M4 is codenamed J713 and J715.

New line of desktop computers

In addition to its mainstream models, Apple is reportedly developing a new generation Mac Pro, codenamed J704. Rumors suggest the product could launch this year. For comparison, the last time Apple upgraded the Mac Pro was in 2023.

Previously, the 2019 Mac Pro used Intel processors, then switched to M-series chips, with the highest-end model featuring the M2 Ultra. While still offering good performance, the M2 Ultra is not an ideal choice for professional users due to its lack of external GPU support.

Apple typically upgrades its desktop Macs in the middle of the year, but that schedule has recently changed. While the Mac Pro is expected to launch in late 2025, the more compact Mac Studio is more likely to debut in 2026.

Based on rumors, Apple is developing two Mac Studio models codenamed J775c and J775d. For comparison, the current Mac Studio is codenamed J575, supporting either the M4 Max or M3 Ultra chip. With rumors suggesting the M5 series will be more powerful than the M3 Ultra, Apple has reason to equip the new Mac Studio with that feature.

Another unreleased device, codenamed J833ct, could be the iMac M5. For comparison, the iMac M4 used the codename J433 internally at Apple. However, it cannot be confirmed whether the new codename belongs to the next-generation iMac.

Some rumors suggest that the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips will use a separate CPU and GPU packaging method, which will "improve performance and thermal efficiency." Specifically, Apple's latest chip packaging process, called System-in-Integrated-Chips-Molding-Horizontal (SoIC-mH), will most likely be applied first to the M5 Pro.

Special products

Specifically for the MacBook Pro line, Apple plans a design change in 2026 to celebrate the product's 20th anniversary. Based on rumors, the device may be thinner and lighter, the screen may use an OLED panel instead of LCD, and the processor may be upgraded to the M6.

Similar to previous generations, Apple is developing four high-end models for the 2026 MacBook Pro: the K114c (14-inch MacBook Pro M6 Max), the K114s (14-inch MacBook Pro M6 Pro), the K116c (16-inch MacBook Pro M6 Max), and the K116s (16-inch MacBook Pro M6 Pro).

Based on the codename, it's highly likely that the MacBook Pro M6 will still offer two screen options. Rumors suggest the M6 chip may integrate a network modem. This would allow the device to access the internet independently, without needing Wi-Fi or a mobile network hotspot as is currently the case.

Finally, two "unusual" codenames appeared in Apple's database: J700 and J804. While J804 is most likely a Mac Pro or MacBook Pro with a standard chip, J700 could be the MacBook model with the A18 Pro processor, which has been rumored recently.

The basic MacBook line first launched in 2006 with a white, plastic casing and was sold until 2012. In 2015, Apple "revived" the MacBook with a 12-inch screen, a USB-C port, and a thin and light design. However, the product failed to survive in the market after four years.

While the MacBook Air is positioned as a thin and light laptop similar to the 12-inch MacBook, its $1,000 price tag isn't an option for many.

According to AppleInsider , a cheaper MacBook version with an A18 chip and Apple Intelligence support could be the solution to reach customers who don't want to spend too much money on a laptop. Of course, everything is currently just a rumor, and Apple may change its plans in the future.
