On the afternoon of February 25th, which is the 9th day of the first lunar month in Vietnam time, many Vietnamese tourists traveling in Dubai flocked to the famous gold market to "seek good luck" before the God of Wealth Day. "I heard Dubai is in its peak tourist season, but I didn't see any tourists all day. Turns out everyone is rushing to the gold market to shop," shared Bich Phuong, 27, a Vietnamese tourist.

Located in the Deira district, the Gold Souk was established in the 1940s by Indian and Iranian traders. The market stretches for about 1 km and features over 500 closely packed stalls specializing in gold, diamonds, and other precious stones.

According to business estimates, around 10 tons of gold are on display here at any given time. From necklaces, bracelets, and wedding rings to elaborate jewelry sets adorned with diamonds, emeralds, and rubies, everything is densely displayed in gleaming glass cases, dazzling many visitors.

The Gold Souk is not just a shopping destination, but also a symbol of Dubai's prosperity. A simple stroll around the area allows visitors to clearly feel the opulence associated with this city.

One of the reasons gold in Dubai attracts international tourists is its favorable tax policy. However, Mahmoud Ali Said Hawchar, a local tour guide, said: "The shops are crowded not necessarily because of lower prices, but most importantly because of the designs and craftsmanship. Places with skilled jewelers, exquisite designs, and who keep up with trends always attract many buyers."

Many tourists visit Dubai but still end up buying a small souvenir. For many Vietnamese, buying a ring or necklace during a trip to Dubai also signifies good luck for the new year, even though they are thousands of kilometers away from home.

How much gold are Vietnamese citizens allowed to bring back to the country?

According to current regulations, there are no quantity limits on the purchase and sale of gold in Dubai. However, when entering Vietnam, passengers should note: Gold (jewelry, handicrafts, bars, ingots) under 300 grams can be carried without customs declaration; from 300 grams to under 1 kg must be declared on the baggage declaration form; over 1 kg must be declared to customs and the excess amount must be sent to a customs warehouse or a permit must be obtained as per regulations. Importantly, individuals are not permitted to carry gold bars or raw gold when entering or exiting the country.
