According to the National Children's Hospital, the hospital's Neonatal Center has just received a two-day-old newborn, who was delivered by cesarean section at week 37 at the request of the family to choose a "good day, good time". Immediately after birth, the baby showed signs of respiratory failure, had to be given oxygen and was urgently transferred to another hospital.
Upon arrival at the Neonatal Center, the baby was cyanotic, had severe circulatory failure, and was diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension. Despite intensive resuscitation, using advanced techniques such as mechanical ventilation, surfactant, and iNO breathing, the newborn did not respond to treatment and did not survive.
This is a heartbreaking and regrettable case of the consequences of choosing a "good day, good time" for a cesarean section that still exists in social life.

According to doctors, natural birth is the best and most physiological method for mother and baby, cesarean section should only be performed when there is a medical indication. However, many families still choose to have a cesarean section when the mother has no signs of labor, choosing a "good day, good time" in the hope that their child will have a lucky and favorable future. However, this choice has many potential risks, which can seriously affect the health and even the life of both mother and newborn.
According to the Ministry of Health 's 2022 maternal and child health care summary report, the cesarean section rate accounts for nearly 37% of total births, with some hospitals reaching 50-60% - much higher than the 10-15% recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to protect the health of mothers and newborns and limit possible dangerous complications.
The cesarean section rate is increasing due to many reasons, the most common of which is that families proactively choose the date and time of birth; in addition, high-risk labor cases are often prescribed by doctors to ensure the safety of mother and baby, etc. Medical experts warn that cesarean section has more potential risks than normal birth, causing concerns about the long-term health of both mother and baby.
According to recommendations from medical experts, natural birth is still the most natural and safest method for both mother and baby. The health and safety of mother and baby are always the top priority. Therefore, cesarean section should only be performed when there is a clear medical indication.
