Choosing the "golden hour" for a cesarean section, the mother lost her baby.

A heartbreaking incident occurred when a family chose an auspicious day and time for the birth, only for the baby to show signs of respiratory distress and die two days later.

According to the National Children's Hospital, the hospital's Neonatal Center recently admitted a two-day-old newborn who was delivered by cesarean section at 37 weeks at the family's request to choose an "auspicious day and time." Immediately after birth, the baby showed signs of respiratory distress, required oxygen, and was urgently transferred to another hospital.

Upon arrival at the Neonatal Center, the baby was cyanotic, suffering from severe circulatory failure, and was diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension. Despite intensive resuscitation using advanced techniques such as mechanical ventilation, surfactant administration, and iNO therapy, the newborn did not respond to treatment and did not survive.

This is a heartbreaking and regrettable case illustrating the lingering consequences of choosing "auspicious days and times" for cesarean sections in society.

According to doctors, natural childbirth is the best and most physiological method for both mother and baby, and cesarean sections should only be performed when medically indicated. However, many families still choose elective cesarean sections even before labor begins, hoping to choose an auspicious date and time for their child's birth, wishing for a lucky and prosperous future. Despite this, this choice carries many risks and can seriously affect the health and even the lives of both mother and newborn.

According to the Ministry of Health 's 2022 report on maternal and child health care, cesarean sections accounted for nearly 37% of all births, with some hospitals reaching 50-60% – many times higher than the 10-15% recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to protect the health of mothers and newborns and limit dangerous complications.

The rate of cesarean sections is increasing due to several reasons, most commonly families actively choosing the date and time of birth; in addition, high-risk labor cases are often recommended by doctors for cesarean sections to ensure the safety of both mother and baby. Medical experts warn that cesarean sections carry more risks than vaginal births, raising concerns about the long-term health of both mother and baby.

According to recommendations from medical experts, natural childbirth remains the most natural and safest method for both mother and baby. The health and safety of both mother and baby are always the top priority. Therefore, cesarean sections should only be performed when clearly indicated by medical professionals.
