In Ia Grai district (Gia Lai province), a unique community outreach model called "Sunday in the Village" is being implemented and is quickly proving its widespread impact within the community.

Educating, deterring, and reforming law-breaking teenagers.
Military personnel participating in the "Sunday in the Village" program help local people harvest agricultural products.

Every Sunday, the "Sunday in the Village" task force, consisting of nearly 30 officers and soldiers from the Ia Grai District Police, in coordination with the Ia Sao Commune Police and the local political system, is present in the villages to organize many practical activities such as: patrolling and controlling security; assisting people in harvesting agricultural products; organizing talks and legal discussions at community centers; answering questions and providing legal advice to people; and especially, focusing on educating and deterring young people at risk of violating the law…

With a face etched with anxiety, Mr. Rơ Châm Bok, a parent from Tốt village who brought his 14-year-old son to the awareness session, shared: "My wife and I are often busy with farming, and we don't have much time for our children. Hearing that my son and his friends stole coffee and other property from the villagers, I feel both sad and ashamed. Today, I brought him here hoping that he will realize his wrongdoings, and I will try to pay more attention to and educate him."

According to Mr. Rơ Châm Klih, Party Secretary and Village Head of Tốt village, the security and order situation in the village has recently seen positive changes. Previously, the locality still experienced some petty thefts and violations of traffic laws by young people due to parental indulgence and lack of attention. Thanks to the involvement of the police force and the local political system, the situation has improved significantly, security and order in the village are ensured, and most villagers comply well with the policies and laws of the Party and the State.

Education , deterrence, and rehabilitation of law-breaking teenagers.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan The, a resident of Tan An village, happily shared that during each harvest season, the biggest worry for the people is the theft of agricultural products. However, this year, thanks to the increased patrols and awareness campaigns by the police and local security teams, the people feel much more secure. Mr. The also regularly exchanges information about the security situation in the area, which helps the functional forces to promptly grasp the situation and plan for more effective security measures.

Lieutenant Phan Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Head of the Ia Sao Commune Police, stated that from January 2024 to the present, only 3 criminal offenses and 1 traffic accident have occurred in the area. Notably, since the pilot implementation of the "Sunday in the Village" model, the security and order situation in the commune has remained stable, and the people's awareness of law compliance has significantly improved, effectively preventing violations of the law.

The "Sunday in the Village" model was piloted in Ia Sao commune from the beginning of October 2024, with the goal of raising legal awareness among the people and maintaining local security. Lieutenant Colonel Truong Ngoc Anh, Head of the Staff Team of the Ia Grai District Police, said that after more than two months of operation, the task force has organized 9 village outreach sessions, focusing on disseminating information to over 700 households, including 37 individual cases. In addition, the police force also assisted in answering 7 legal-related questions and received 2 pieces of information from the people regarding security and order.

With the motto "Close to the people, understand the people, and be among the people," the "Sunday in the Village" model has built trust and encouraged people to boldly provide more information on crime prevention and control to the police force during the performance of their duties. "Hopefully, through these activities, people's awareness of law compliance will improve, young people will live more positively and become good citizens," Lieutenant Colonel Truong Ngoc Anh shared.

With dedication and practical activities, the "Sunday in the Village" model promises to bring many positive results in building a civilized, safe, and law-abiding community.
