"STEAM For Girls" Finals

The competition aims to encourage female students aged 13 to 15 to participate in the fields of science , technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

Delegates and representatives from participating units attended the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the Thai Ministry of Education , UNICEF Vietnam's Education Program, leaders and experts from the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, the Victoria School Board, the teachers leading the delegation, and 69 outstanding female students from 18 provinces and cities across the country, as well as representatives from Thailand, Malaysia, and Laos.

In his opening remarks, Professor Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Competition, shared : “There are many famous female scientists in the world such as Marie Curie, the first scientist to receive two Nobel Prizes in the fields of Physics and Chemistry; Ada Lovelace , the world's first computer programmer…” and encouraged female students to “be confident in pursuing what they love, and not believe in limiting prejudices that they cannot do anything.”

In her welcoming remarks at the final round , UNICEF Vietnam representative, Ms. Le Anh Lan, an education program specialist, emphasized the importance of STEAM education in preparing young people to face global challenges such as climate change and renewable energy.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Christopher Bradley , M.Sc., Headmaster of Victoria School - South Saigon, also shared about the school's mission to provide a holistic educational environment and encourage students to become the best version of themselves.

In the final round, the organizers divided 69 female students into 23 teams. These students came from different regions, each with their own strengths and talents, and were able to collaborate to create outstanding scientific research projects. Besides promoting equal and fair access, this unique team-building method also created opportunities for increased connection, exchange, and sharing not only knowledge but also culture, history, and unique characteristics between different localities within the country and international friends.

The female students enthusiastically participated in the competition's activities.

Each team can register one project topic from three fields: Green STEAM skills; renewable energy; and climate change adaptation. They will conduct research and create a product in the form of a scientific paper or a practical product using models, videos, or illustrative images to demonstrate the creativity and practical application of the project. After completion, contestants will present their project report to the judging panel and answer questions on October 3rd, 2024.

Based on the criteria of creativity and innovation ; feasibility and applicability; cooperation and teamwork; and environmental and social awareness , the judging panel will select outstanding teams to award 3 first prizes, 6 second prizes, several third prizes, and a number of other special awards to outstanding female students.

The STEAM for Girls 2024 competition, first launched in May 2024, attracted interest from many provinces and cities nationwide, with nearly 200 female students participating in the preliminary round.

69 outstanding female students from 18 provinces and cities across the country, as well as representatives from Thailand, Malaysia, and Laos, participated in STEAM For Girls 2024”.

The final round of the competition will take place from September 30th to October 4th, 2024, along with many exciting experiential activities such as visiting the Vietjet Aviation Academy and the Galaxy Innovation Hub to learn about the application of technology and techniques in the aviation industry and creative research activities; experiencing practical learning, and exploring a "city tour" to better understand the dynamism and creativity of Ho Chi Minh City.

In particular, the students will participate in an educational forum on renewable energy and climate change . This is an important first step in encouraging female students to pursue STEAM, while also contributing to promoting gender equality in education and sustainable development.
