New friends, new school

Moving to a new place, Tung is eagerly awaiting the day he meets his teachers and friends, and looking forward to exploring the classroom, schoolyard, and all the interesting things at his new school. “I think I’ll keep up with my classmates in other subjects. But I’m a little worried about English, because we didn’t learn it at my old school, while the students here have been learning it since first grade,” Tung expressed.

Mr. Le Duc Vuong, Tung's parent, shared: "From the school transfer procedures to the admission process, the teachers have been very supportive and helpful. Thanks to them, we feel completely at ease as our child begins his learning journey at the new school."
At Phan Thiet Secondary School, over 50 students have transferred from the former Ha Giang province . The school is currently reviewing its facilities and preparing the best possible plans for receiving students and conducting teaching in the new academic year. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, the school principal, shared: Initial assessments reveal some difficulties in student enrollment, such as a lack of facilities and insufficient teaching staff. For now, the school is rearranging classrooms, converting subject-specific rooms into classrooms, and reassigning responsibilities to teachers… in order to ensure the best possible conditions for welcoming the students from the former Ha Giang province and for the start of the new academic year.
As the school that welcomed students back to school earliest in the province, Le Van Tam Primary School in Minh Xuan ward is expected to welcome 23 students from Ha Giang province this year. According to Principal Nguyen Viet Hai, the school has 926 students from grades 1 to 5. To best support the new students, the school has proactively arranged them into classes scientifically , addressing the shortage of facilities and teachers. The school has rearranged classrooms, reassigned tasks to teachers, and especially focused on helping new students quickly adapt to the new environment.

This year, the majority of students transferring from the former Ha Giang province are concentrated in schools within Minh Xuan ward. According to Mr. Ngo Tuan Anh, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Minh Xuan ward, there are currently over 20 public and private schools at all levels in the ward, including specialized schools such as Le Quy Don Secondary School and the Specialized High School. From the beginning of July, the ward directed schools to prepare the best possible conditions to welcome students, with only a few specialized schools like Le Quy Don Secondary School and the Specialized High School following the directives of the Department of Education and Training.
The issue of receiving students from the former Ha Giang province is being proactively addressed by the schools. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hong, Principal of Tan Trao Kindergarten in Minh Xuan ward, said that in the 2025-2026 school year, the school will have over 430 students. With the current facilities, the school expects to be able to accommodate an additional 50 students whose parents are transferring back to the provincial center. Because the school does not have the resources to open new classes, it has proactively implemented plans to allocate students into groups, ensuring the necessary conditions for student reception and teaching are in accordance with regulations.
Striving for our beloved students.
The Department of Education and Training has issued Document No. 189/SGDĐT-GDPT regarding the admission of students transferring schools due to the provincial merger. Accordingly, the Department requires schools to ensure the quality of teaching and learning, and to create favorable conditions for officials, civil servants, and workers from the former Ha Giang province to transfer and work with peace of mind. In cases where there is a high demand for transferring students and additional classes are needed, schools should proactively rearrange classrooms, subject-specific classrooms; re-approve the educational development plan of schools with changes in class and student numbers for the 2025-2026 school year; and advise the competent authority on the deployment and secondment of teachers to meet the requirements of the increased number of classes.
Comrade Bui Quang Tri, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said that immediately after the provincial merger was implemented before July 1st, the Education sector issued a directive to schools in Tuyen Quang province to maximize the number of students per class. If additional classes are needed due to the increased number of students, the department is ready to work with schools to ensure adequate facilities and the deployment of teachers to maintain teaching and learning even with the increased class size.

With the increase in students, most schools have proactively prepared for the situation. Hong Thai Secondary School in Minh Xuan Ward expects to welcome over 20 students this year. Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, the school's principal, stated that while the increase will necessitate a larger class size, the school will still provide maximum support for the students. Although the school currently lacks approximately 5 teaching positions, due to the nature of the education sector, the teachers are overcoming difficulties and ensuring adequate teaching and learning conditions for the students.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Principal of Phan Thiet Secondary School, cited that this year's 8th grade has 7 classes with 370 students, including 11 students from Ha Giang (formerly). According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, each class currently has 52 students/45 students. The school is seeking approval from higher authorities to split one more 8th grade class to bring the number of students closer to the regulations.
As a specialized school, Tuyen Quang Specialized High School is preparing the best conditions to welcome students from the former Ha Giang province to study there, following the guidance of the Department of Education and Training. Document No. 141/QD-SGDĐT from the Department of Education and Training regarding the entrance examination for Tuyen Quang Specialized High School clearly states that it will create favorable conditions for students currently studying at Ha Giang Specialized High School to transfer to Tuyen Quang Specialized High School after the province merger. Students currently studying in a specialized class will take the entrance exam for that class. Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Lan, from Ha Giang 2 ward, shared that as soon as the Department of Education and Training issued the document, her family encouraged and supported her to prepare mentally for the entrance exam to the Specialized High School. Currently, her child is focusing on studying for the upcoming exam. Hoang Tien Phuc, from Ha Giang 1 ward, said that he recently passed the entrance exam for the English specialization at Ha Giang Specialized High School. This time, he will try his best to study his favorite specialized subject at Tuyen Quang Specialized High School.
Following the merger, the province now has 1,054 schools, including 7 private schools; 1,803 separate school branches, 17,217 groups/classes with 493,707 students. Implementing a two-tiered local government system will bring about changes in state management of education, especially with many students moving to the provincial center with their parents, raising issues regarding the arrangement and allocation of facilities, teaching staff, and student admission procedures. Based on guidance documents from the Ministry, directives from the Provincial People's Committee, and practical requirements, the Education sector continues to provide timely advice on education management, ensuring that there are no gaps or interruptions in tasks, especially now that educational institutions are entering the enrollment season and preparing for the new school year.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Hang Ensure the best conditions for welcoming students. The Specialized High School has 33 classes, with a total of over 1,000 students. To date, 22 students have registered to study at the Specialized High School. Following the directive of the Department of Education and Training in Document No. 141/QD-SGDĐT dated August 8, 2025, regarding the approval of the supplementary enrollment plan for Tuyen Quang Specialized High School for the 2025-2026 academic year, the school is urgently preparing all necessary conditions. Teacher Luu Thi Thanh Binh Show care and support to the new students who have just transferred here. This year, the school received 43 students transferring from Ha Giang (formerly). Among them, class 8B, which I am the homeroom teacher of, has 3 students. The class size is currently 50 students. With a new school, a new class, and new friends, the students will inevitably experience some initial unfamiliarity, so I frequently encourage and support them to help them get used to the new environment. Classroom activities are also organized to help students get acquainted, make friends, and integrate into the new environment. Teachers also regularly communicate with students to understand their academic progress and psychological well-being, and provide support. In addition, teachers proactively disseminate information about the merger and the positive changes students can expect, thereby fostering a love for their homeland and country in each student. Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong, Minh Xuan Ward Received timely assistance from schools. My family recently moved from Ha Giang 1 ward to Minh Xuan ward. To make it easier for me to work and take care of my child, I registered my child to transfer to Phan Thiet Primary School. The Education Department transferred my child's name to the school according to my family's wishes. Even though it was still summer vacation, at the end of July, teachers from Phan Thiet Primary School called to guide and assist with the enrollment process quickly. They also helped with purchasing textbooks and uniforms, arranged for a class with appropriate class sizes, and regularly checked in with and encouraged my child to feel comfortable at the new school. The timely, thoughtful, and close support from the school made the transfer smooth and allowed us to focus on our work with peace of mind. Nguyen Manh Tung Integrate quickly to study effectively. I recently transferred from Minh Khai Junior High School to Hong Thai Junior High School. I had the opportunity to visit the school, classrooms, library, functional rooms, and sports field, and learn about the extracurricular activities that will take place this school year. The teachers were always caring and encouraging. Thanks to their friendliness and approachability, I feel more confident and excited. I believe I will quickly integrate, make many new friends, and strive to study hard in the new school year. |
