Digital transformation in education

In the context of digital transformation and the rapid development of technology, artificial intelligence (AI) has become an important tool, offering many opportunities, especially in education.

Today's students not only learn through textbooks but also use AI to support their learning and research. Instead of spending hours searching for materials, their studies have become easier thanks to AI synthesizing information in just a few minutes. Students at Vo Thanh Trinh High School (Cho Moi district) proactively seek knowledge, cultivate self-learning habits, and delve deeper into their areas of interest. The school has built a chatbot system to support students and parents in searching for information, along with a website and an AI-powered career guidance chatbot – developed using Microsoft Copilot Studio – to help 12th-grade students identify their interests, abilities, and career paths.

The school's teachers also extensively apply information technology in various aspects of their work. For example: designing homework assignments for students, allowing them to complete assignments anytime, anywhere without needing to be in class; designing gameshows, games, and scenarios using software to make learning more engaging for students, especially as warm-up exercises before each lesson. Teachers can create images and guide students in using mind maps to systematize knowledge. Furthermore, they can transfer technology to all high school students.

Since the 2023-2024 school year, Vo Thanh Trinh High School has been promoting the use of AI in learning, teaching, and research among teachers and students. Students are encouraged to participate in technology competitions and creative projects to develop self-learning skills, information retrieval, and career orientation in the digital age. Vo Anh Kiet (class 12A4) expressed: “Initially, it was a bit unfamiliar, but once I mastered it, I found it to have significant advantages, with many more tools to support learning and making it easier to understand lessons. Social media also helps me connect with friends to exchange information both inside and outside of school.”

Thanks to the application of digital technology, students continuously excel in various technological fields: achieving Microsoft MOS and MCE certifications; connecting and exchanging internationally through teams; applying Minecraft to science and technology projects; designing websites; using Sway in book presentation competitions and writing reading journals; organizing online reading sessions; learning digital skills on Microsoft Learn… Notably, this is the only public school in An Giang recognized by Microsoft as a Microsoft Model School for four consecutive years (2021-2025). The school also actively shares its digital transformation experience with other schools in and outside the province.

Keeping pace with the digital transformation trend, the Department of Education and Training, in collaboration with the Vietnam Digital Transformation and Educational Technology Development Joint Stock Company, organized a training conference titled "Promoting Digital Transformation and Applying Artificial Intelligence in Educational Management" at secondary schools throughout the province for the 2024-2025 academic year. The conference provided basic knowledge on digital transformation and enhanced the capacity to apply AI software in educational management for over 200 school administrators. This training also contributed to changing mindsets, innovating teaching and management methods, and building a modern education system that meets the demands of the digital age.

For secondary education, data analytics systems help teachers quickly grasp students' learning progress. In addition, they collaborate with schools and parents in ensuring digital security and safety within schools. According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Anh (Director of Vietnam Digital Transformation and Educational Technology Development Joint Stock Company), in the digital age, teachers are not only transmitters of knowledge, but also creators, guides, and inspirers. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful tool to help teachers maximize their roles.

Undeniably, AI has opened up new horizons for teaching and learning with just a few lines of code, supporting the creation of new ideas. However, it is also necessary to consider the dependence on AI and its potential limitations on critical thinking. Schools should leverage the advantages of technology while guiding teachers and students to view AI as a supporting tool to improve the quality of teaching and learning, rather than as a primary means of completely replacing existing educational methods.
