Digital transformation in trade union activities

With 183 grassroots trade unions and over 12,400 members, the Provincial Federation of Labor has promoted digital transformation in the activities of trade unions at all levels, actively applying information technology to operations closely linked to the production and business of each unit. This has contributed to improving the quality of emulation movements, building a workforce of highly skilled and technologically proficient union members and workers, and gradually adapting to the digital economy.

At Son La Printing Joint Stock Company, digital transformation has become an effective solution to address difficulties in labor management. Ms. Hoang Thi Yen, Chairwoman of the company's grassroots trade union, said: "With 50 union members, workers are employed on assembly lines, divided into 2 to 3 shifts depending on production times. We have proactively created a Zalo group to share information about the activities of the trade union and the company. In addition, the company uses software to calculate employee performance points so that workers can determine their monthly salary and bonuses. Thanks to the 'digitization' of processes, the company saves 10-20 million VND in office supplies costs each year."

Although only established in January 2026, the Trade Union of Yen Chau Footwear Joint Stock Company has completed updating 100% of its member data onto the management software. This allows union officials to monitor changes in the number of members, collect and disburse union fees, and quickly and accurately search for information.

To enhance the digital skills of its staff, in 2025, the Provincial Labor Union organized two training conferences on digital transformation, financial management, and union asset management for over 200 full-time union officials. To date, 100% of full-time union officials are proficient in using digital signatures and electronic document systems. The Provincial Labor Union also upgraded its website and updated 1,200 news articles on professional activities, policies, laws, and welfare benefits, attracting over 600,000 visits from union members and workers. Responding to the "Trade Union Tet Market - Spring 2026" program organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Labor Union proactively coordinated and guided all levels of unions to implement support activities, creating conditions for union members to access policies. The program supported over 2,500 disadvantaged union members in online shopping with a total expenditure of over 1.2 billion VND.

Innovating the content and methods of trade union activities in conjunction with digital transformation, especially in trade union finance and membership management, is one of the three important breakthroughs in the 2025-2030 term. Mr. Soi Ngoc Cuong, Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Labor Unions, informed that the Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor Unions has directed all levels of trade unions to strengthen propaganda and raise awareness among trade union officials, members, and workers about digital transformation; and to innovate working methods from a traditional to a digital environment. Training courses and workshops on basic knowledge of digital transformation have been organized for trade union officials at all levels. Trade union members and workers are encouraged to actively study, improve their skills, and apply and use information technology in their work, labor, and production to adapt to working conditions in the new context.

Actively promoting digital transformation, trade unions at all levels in the province continue to strengthen propaganda to raise awareness, prioritize trade union financial resources for digital transformation; strengthen training, transfer of professional skills, and exploitation of member information systems... Striving to achieve by 2026, 95% or more of the content of the provincial Federation of Labor's leadership and management work will be implemented in the digital environment; 100% of grassroots trade unions will use trade union accounting software; 100% of grassroots trade union officials will be trained and proficient in using member management software; and 100% of members will have their information entered into the management software.

Applying information technology and digital transformation to trade union activities not only contributes to promoting administrative reform, but also ensures the timely and effective implementation of trade union tasks, creating breakthroughs in building a stronger Son La Trade Union organization, worthy of being a reliable support, protecting and caring for the interests of union members and workers.
