What is happening to Hojlund?

After 18 Serie A matches, the Danish striker has scored 6 goals. This isn't a terrible record, but it's not outstanding either. The Manchester United forward is gradually showing signs of declining form.

Hojlund has failed to score in his last seven matches across all competitions, including Serie A and the Champions League, a worrying form. In five of those seven games, the 2003-born striker received a rating below 6 from the statistics website Sofascore .

The last time Hojlund scored for Napoli was in the Serie A match against Cremonese on December 28, 2025, in a 2-0 victory for the Neapolitan team.

It's worth noting that the majority of Hojlund's goals came against teams in the lower half of the table. The only exception was the match against Juventus, where the Danish striker scored a brace.

Recent performances haven't been enough to mask the fact that Hojlund is struggling against well-organized and high-quality defenses. This raises serious questions about the 2003-born striker's ability when placed in a more competitive environment.

According to MEN , Hojlund's biggest problem lies not only in his goal-scoring performance, but also in his mentality and consistency. The striker often has streaks of 1-3 explosive games, playing like a top star, before disappearing for the next 10 or so matches.

At the highest level of European football, where competition is fierce and there is no room for inconsistency, consistency is the most important measure of a player's class. And that is something Hojlund has yet to prove.

Hojlund joined Manchester United from Atalanta in August 2023 for a fee of £64 million. He left Old Trafford last summer to join Napoli on loan. The Neapolitan club then decided to pay £38 million to buy Hojlund outright, a deal that takes effect at the end of the season.
