Mbappe failed to score in both legs of this year's Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal. In the second leg on the morning of April 17th, the former PSG star didn't manage a single shot on target at home.
The last time Mbappe scored for Real Madrid was in the La Liga match against Leganes (a brace) on March 29th. These have been some of Mbappe's rare goals for Real Madrid in the past month. Including his national team appearances, Mbappe also failed to score during the March international break, in the two Nations League matches against Croatia.
In addition to his goals, Mbappe received one yellow card and one red card in the past 30 days. The 1-2 defeat against Arsenal on the morning of April 17th was the fifth consecutive match in which the striker failed to score in all competitions.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois believes that the poor performance of forwards like Mbappe against Arsenal was due to tactical reasons. "We made too many long passes, but we didn't have a player like Joselu in the center. We are a team, but sometimes I feel like the players are playing individually," Courtois analyzed.
Also in the recent match, Mbappe suffered an injury while avoiding a tackle from Declan Rice. The French striker is suspected of spraining his right ankle and had to leave the field in the 75th minute.
Currently, doctors are still conducting examinations to assess the severity of the injury. However, the biggest concern is that the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona is just ten days away.
Mbappe scores after a superb free-kick setup. In the early hours of March 30th, Mbappe scored in Real Madrid's 3-2 victory over Leganes in the 29th round of La Liga.
