Martial could leave AEK. |
In 23 appearances for AEK Athens this season, Martial has scored 9 goals and provided 2 assists. Compared to his lackluster performance at Manchester United, this is an encouraging step forward.
Martial's life in Greece is in stark contrast to the start of the season, however, with the Frenchman being the highest-paid player in AEK's history (£2.9m a year) but having made few contributions in recent times.
Martial was sent off in a clash with Olympiacos on April 14. Despite his positive impact on the pitch, Martial’s behaviour in tense situations has forced AEK’s management to reconsider the striker’s position.
In addition, injury problems also affected Martial's performance. The striker had to miss 7 matches from early February to April. This made the management worried that Martial's frequent absence from playing like at MU would repeat.
Greek media reports that AEK have started looking for a buyer for Martial and will let him go if a suitable offer comes in. The current contract between the two parties runs until June 2027. Transfermarkt currently values Martial at €9 million.
