From the boarding houses
After finishing their afternoon shift, Hoang Van Lam and his wife, Nguyen Thi Huong, workers at the Thuy Van Industrial Zone, stopped by the market to buy food to cook a meal in their cramped rented room. Lam shared: "Both of us are factory workers, so our income isn't much. Each month, rent, electricity, water, and other expenses make life quite difficult. If we had a small, stable place to live, it would ease half our worries."

The dream of owning a home is a fundamental need, especially for those who have to leave their hometowns to pursue their careers. Mr. Pham Van Long, from Hien Luong commune, has been working as a factory worker in the Phu Ha Industrial Zone for many years. His family still rents a room and longs for a place to settle down. Mr. Long said: “With my current salary, I can only make ends meet; it’s difficult to buy a house to feel secure and committed to my job in the long term. Near the industrial zone, there’s a social housing project for workers that has completed phase 1. I’m looking into it, but I’m still concerned about the eligibility requirements for low-income earners.”
Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, 38 years old, from Mai Ha commune, who works in Nong Trang ward, said: "My family of four came from Hoa Binh province to work here and are currently renting a house, which is quite expensive and inconvenient. My family hopes to soon buy a social housing unit near our workplace at a suitable price so we can settle down and feel secure in the long term."
Mr. Quach Tan Cong, Deputy Head of the Trade Union Affairs Department of the Provincial Federation of Labor, stated: "Social housing is the 'bridge' to retain workers. Developing social housing and housing for workers is both one of the pillars of social security policies and an effective solution to promote local socio -economic development."
A chance to settle down.
In 2022, the Minh Phuong low-rise social housing project commenced on plot N02, within the Minh Phuong residential and commercial service area in Nong Trang ward, with a total investment of over 173 billion VND, comprising 123 houses. Each 2.5-story house, ranging in size from 102m² to 139.5m² , is designed with full amenities, suitable for user needs and environmentally friendly.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Khanh researched and registered to purchase social housing at the Minh Phuong low-rise social housing project.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Khanh, a worker at COSMOS1 Technology Co., Ltd., said that due to financial difficulties, her family of four had previously lived in a rented house. When the Minh Phuong social housing project was completed and put on sale, she successfully registered. “This is truly an opportunity for my family to fulfill our dream of owning a home to settle down and build a stable life.”
