Graduating from the International Baccalaureate without being far from home
Participating in the seminar, Master Nguyen Thu Phuong (Representative of Asia - Pacific, TBritish International School King's InterHigh) and Master Bui Khanh Nguyen (independent education expert) said that more and more Vietnamese parents and students are interested in the IB (International Baccalaureate) program. This is an internationally standardized diploma that can be compared between students from different countries based on their test results. The IB program is usually studied in the last 2 years of high school, both as a high school diploma and as a pre-university. This is different from the IGCSE degree (considered as a high school diploma) and the A - Level (seepre-university degree) under the British education program. In other words, the programh IB emphasizes both depth and breadth. The program focuses on developing competencies, skills and values that are important in the development of each student. The goal is not just to get into college, the goal is to help students succeed in college and in life.
Because the IB program is designed for international students with a vision to become global citizens, the academic level is high, with 9 subjects that balance the natural and social sciences. Therefore, in the past, students had to go directly to international schools that taught IB programs to study if they wanted to win this degree. However, according to Master Nguyen Thu Phuong, thanks to the development of technology, students can now access the IB program online. King's InterHigh British International School is the first and only international standard online IB training institution in the world to date.
Master Nguyen Thu Phuong emphasized: “In the past, students who wanted to study abroad had to go abroad. Nowadays, with the development of technology, on the contrary, schools and teachers come to children. Vietnamese students can now earn their International Baccalaureate Diploma and still be able to gather with their families for every meal. In particular, the cost of online learning is only 20-50% equivalent to face-to-face learning while the quality is similar. According to Ms. Thu Phuong's estimate, the cost of online IB study at King's InterHigh is only 25% of the cost of face-to-face learning.
Break down many barriers in the learning process
Although possessing many advantages, online learning with a long-term program like IB or A - Level also makes parents have many concerns. The first is the problem of interaction between teachers and students, between students. In this regard, Master Nguyen Thu Phuong emphasized that technology is the key "key". She said, King's InterHigh school uses virtual reality technology Virtual Reality and Metaverse to create virtual classrooms, where teachers and students can interact in the most intuitive way.
Regarding the time zone difference, Ms. Thu Phuong said that King's InterHigh School will deploy more Vietnam time zones since September 9.2023,. When children start learning, parents will be provided with a separate account to communicate with teachers to capture the learning situation of their children. King's InterHigh teachers are also qualified UK teachers (Qualified UK Teachers) and for the IB program, teachers also need to meet the standards to specialize in teaching this program (Qualified IB Teacher). In addition, the school also has a team of teaching assistants who are always ready to support students throughout the learning process and a team of academic advisors based on each student's strengths and passions to help students make the best choices when deciding to go to university.
Regarding how social communication and physical activities will be organized in the context of online learning, Master Bui Khanh Nguyen encourages parents to create an exchange group between families with children studying this online form. Meanwhile, Master Nguyen Thu Phuong emphasized that although King's InterHigh school organizes online learning, it still has international clubs and summer camps for the student community, such as T-cluboastmaster to enhance English presentation skills in front of crowds. In particular, King's InterHigh is also a member of an educational group Inspired Education with more than 80 member schools across 5 continents, of which Vietnam has 2 schools, AIS and EIS, giving students the opportunity to exchange in many parts of the world.
Early orientation to the future
Since the IB program is designed to prepare students for an international university environment, career orientation is carried out in a very systematic manner. Before admission, students will be required to write an essay and participate in an interview so that the school representative understands their own desires and aspirations when participating in the International Baccalaureate program. In particular, in order to facilitate students who are ready to study to participate in programs such as IGCSE, A-level and IB, the school encourages parents to let their children participate in learning from grade 1 to have a solid foundation and proficient English ability. For grade 1 and primary school, students do not have to take an entrance exam or place a class like the traditional way of registration.
For families who want to let their children study at the same time as the Vietnamese high school program and IGCSE without too much pressure, King's InterHigh School allows students to choose at least 3 subjects to study. In which, there are many subjects that have not appeared in Vietnam's high school curriculum, such as creative communication, photography, psychology, etc.
In addition, the classes are designed according to British standards, encouraging active expression of opinions, leadership ability, improving standard English and a team of career counseling teachers, etc., which is also the necessary preparation for students when entering the international environment.
