The provincial trade union is implementing many comprehensive and solid solutions, determined to comprehensively reform its organizational model towards a streamlined and efficient structure, and to better support and care for workers in this new phase.

From contemplation to action

Mr. Do Tran Thinh, Chairman of the Provincial Labor Union, shared that the everyday worries and concerns of workers regarding meals, accommodation, children's education costs, and the health of elderly parents always trouble him. All of this motivates him and the Standing Committee and Executive Committee of the Provincial Labor Union to find solutions to build a unified, modern, and more accessible labor union model, hoping that the union will expand its coverage, enhance its representative strength, and become a reliable support for its members and workers.

The targets for membership growth and the establishment of grassroots trade unions are not just numbers, but also the mission of the Trade Union organization in the new era. Immediately after the administrative unit merger and the reform of trade union activities, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor Unions organized many intensive campaigns, proactively approaching businesses, building a positive cooperative environment with employers, and simultaneously caring for the lives of union members and workers. In parallel, the Provincial Federation of Labor Unions expanded welfare programs to ensure union members have access to high-quality goods and services with preferential policies.

When employers and employees clearly see the benefits of joining a trade union, the work of developing union membership and establishing grassroots trade unions becomes easier, creating a solid foundation for the trade union to expand its force and build an increasingly strong organization. In the last six months of 2025, the Provincial Federation of Labor Unions aims to develop 15,000 union members and establish 14 new grassroots trade unions. However, due to the merger of grassroots trade unions in public service units, along with the fluctuation of the workforce in non-state enterprises, the entire province will see a reduction of 23 grassroots trade unions and 9,000 union members. By December 31, 2025, the province will have 785 grassroots trade unions and labor unions, with 116,002 union members out of a total of 124,317 workers, civil servants, and employees.

Persevere on this new journey.

In 2026, the Provincial Labor Union aims to develop 15,000 or more union members; and ensure that 100% of businesses with 20 or more employees establish grassroots trade unions. To achieve this goal, the unit will implement a comprehensive set of solutions starting from the beginning of 2026. First, the unit will proactively approach and build strong relationships with businesses and workers; sign cooperation agreements with local Party committees to survey and understand the situation of union members and workers, develop union membership, and establish grassroots trade unions; and select May and July 2026 to organize peak months for developing union membership and establishing grassroots trade unions.

Furthermore, focus on improving the welfare of union members through cooperation programs with businesses, giving union members and workers more opportunities to use quality services and products with preferential policies. Simultaneously, organize and coordinate with businesses to train and improve workers' skills to meet the demands of modern production, contributing to improved and increased income. Strengthen regular dialogue, resolve difficulties at the grassroots level, ensure stable and harmonious labor relations; train a team of grassroots trade union officials with sufficient competence and skills to truly be a "pillar" protecting the legitimate rights of union members and workers. Along with that, actively launch and organize emulation movements to encourage union members and workers to work diligently and contribute positively to the sustainable development of the unit and enterprise.

January 2026 witnessed vibrant activities of the An Giang Provincial Labor Union in various areas of work. Accordingly, the Provincial Labor Union signed cooperation agreements with three enterprises to implement welfare programs for union members and workers. Efforts to care for the lives of union members and workers during the Lunar New Year of 2026 were carried out actively from the provincial level to the grassroots with many practical activities. At the same time, nine new grassroots trade unions were established with 1,269 new members.

Taking decisive action right from the beginning of 2026 demonstrates the An Giang Trade Union's determination to innovate, improve the quality of its activities, and attract and unite union members with the trade union organization. According to Mr. Do Tran Thinh, in addition to the efforts of trade unions at all levels, strong policies from the central to local levels are needed to stabilize the lives, jobs, and incomes of workers, creating fundamental and sustainable conditions for union members and workers to feel secure in their work and committed to the province's businesses and the trade union organization.
