Cong Phuong chooses a special jersey number at Binh Phuoc Club.

Striker Nguyen Cong Phuong will wear the number 70 jersey at Binh Phuoc Club. This is a surprising number, because for most of his career playing for HAGL, the player born in 1995 has worn the number 10 jersey. In the Vietnamese national team, Cong Phuong also often wears the number 10 jersey.

In 2019, Cong Phuong wore the numbers 23 and 27 respectively when playing for Incheon United (South Korea) and Sint-Truidense (Belgium). Later, when he moved to Yokohama FC (Japan), Cong Phuong wore the number 28. This was an understandable choice, as the number 10 jersey (usually reserved for attacking stars) was already taken before Cong Phuong arrived, so the player from Nghe An had to choose a different number. As for Binh Phuoc, the choice of number 70 may have been intentional on the part of the 29-year-old striker.

Cong Phuong will help improve the quality of Binh Phuoc's attack.

Cong Phuong has joined Binh Phuoc FC to participate in the 2024-2025 First Division league. Along with Dang Van Lam, Le Ngoc Bao, and other national team players, he is expected to add excitement to this season's First Division competition. After missing out on promotion last season, Cong Phuong's Binh Phuoc FC is determined to secure a spot in the V-League. Their main rivals are Ninh Binh FC and PVF-CAND FC.

Cong Phuong's debut match in the First Division will take place on October 27th, during Binh Phuoc FC's away game against Hoa Binh FC (at Hoa Binh Provincial Stadium). After signing the contract, Cong Phuong will train with the team to prepare for the new season.

At Binh Phuoc FC, Cong Phuong will be reunited with Nguyen Anh Duc, his former teammate in the Vietnamese national team, who now serves as the team's head coach. Former Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) technical director Yusuke Adachi also joined Binh Phuoc FC last season, taking on the role of technical director and building a solid foundation for the team from the Southeast region.

Cong Phuong played for HAGL in the V-League for two periods, 2015-2019 and 2021-2022, interspersed with three overseas stints with Mito Hollyhock (2016), Incheon United (2019), and Sint-Truidense (2019).

Cong Phuong's peak in the V-League was the 2021 season. The 29-year-old striker soared with 6 goals, topping the table with HAGL before the league was cancelled. Cong Phuong then played for HAGL for another season in 2022 (scoring 5 goals in 16 matches) before moving to Yokohama FC.
