The Monumental stadium stands caught fire.

The El Clásico match between River Plate and Boca Juniors in the 14th round of the Argentinian football league witnessed a serious incident. A section of the Monumental stadium's stands unexpectedly caught fire just before kick-off.

The incident occurred at the Centenario Alta stands during a River Plate fans' welcome to the players. According to initial reports, the fire likely originated from the use of flares, large flags, or other fan materials that came into contact with a heat source.

Thick black smoke quickly rose above the stands, causing panic among thousands of spectators. Many had to leave the dangerous area as security and fire services were immediately deployed.

Some images showed seats in the stands catching fire. Despite the shocking situation, the fire was brought under control within minutes thanks to the quick response of the firefighters on the scene. After inspecting the structure of the affected area, the organizers decided to allow the match to continue instead of postponing or canceling it.

The scattering of confetti and the setting off of fireworks are believed to have caused the fire in the stands.

Earlier, River Plate ultras groups prepared a massive display of support to create the most enthusiastic atmosphere for Argentina's number one derby. Up to 50,000 flags, dozens of tons of scrap paper, and a giant backdrop were brought into the Monumental Stadium.

The message distributed to fans urged them to wait for the team to walk onto the field so they could simultaneously throw confetti and create a visual spectacle. However, the out-of-control performance nearly led to disaster.

On the pitch, River Plate suffered further disappointment when they lost to their arch-rivals 0-1. Leandro Paredes scored the only goal in injury time of the first half, giving Boca Juniors a triumphant victory in this fiery derby.

How Juan Roman Riquelme conquered the world of football: Argentinian football has always produced highly skilled players. But among them, one name stands out, in whom viewers see an astonishing calmness and grace.
