Cong Phuong was once an icon of the golden generation of Vietnamese football under coach Park Hang-seo. He was involved in memorable milestones such as finishing as runners-up in the 2018 U23 Asian Championship, winning the 2018 AFF Cup, and reaching the quarter-finals of the 2019 Asian Cup.

However, after brilliant years with the national team and HAGL club, Cong Phuong's career faced many challenges with unsuccessful overseas stints. Currently, the striker born in 1995 plays for Dong Nai Club in the national first division.

Since the beginning of the season, Cong Phuong hasn't played a single minute due to injury. However, he has recovered and had a perfect run-up before his return to competition. Evidence of this is his consistent goalscoring and assists in recent friendly matches for Dong Nai FC, showing that his physical condition and ball control are quite good.

Cong Phuong's return promises to give Dong Nai FC extra strength in the promotion race. After 7 rounds, the team leads V.League 2 with 17 points.
