(NADS) - On the morning of December 22nd, the inauguration ceremony officially announced the opening of Thu Duc City Book Street, welcoming readers from all over. This iconic cultural institution creates a space and services that meet diverse community needs and contributes to spreading the culture of reading to everyone.
Future institutions
As the investor, the Publishers Association, in coordination with the leading departments of Thu Duc City, has built Thu Duc Book Street, an outdoor cultural institution aimed at becoming a distinctive cultural and tourist destination of the city.
The Thu Duc City Book Street project stretches along the sidewalk of Ho Thi Tu Street, with a length of 190m, a width of 19.6m, and an area of over 3,500 m2.
According to Mr. Le Hoang, Standing Committee member of the Vietnam Publishers Association and Director of Ho Chi Minh City Book Street Co., Ltd., the investment cost for installing booths and functional spaces is 10 billion VND, funded through social contributions.
The book street features 12 book publishers, 22 bookstores and book cafes, 1 Ho Chi Minh cultural space, 3 stages and interactive reading culture spaces, 2 exhibition or festival activity spaces, 3 community reading spaces, 3 reading spaces, and community spaces for light physical and intellectual games,...
The Thu Duc City Book Street has officially opened, carrying the expectation that it will become an outdoor cultural institution, a space for culture, knowledge, education , services, spirituality, and the development of reading culture, literature, and art. It will also be a venue for organizing festivals, exhibitions, and the application of innovative science and technology.
Promoting a reading culture
The opening of Thu Duc Book Street has extended the success of Ho Chi Minh City's Book Street. It is the second book street and also the first local book street in Ho Chi Minh City.
Thu Duc Book Street is the first project related to the cultural and publishing sector, part of a series of projects commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country. The aim is to enhance reading culture and build more book spaces and book streets throughout the city to provide people with opportunities to enjoy and read books.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, City Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, said: "We believe that this is not simply a project of creativity, but also the dedication and great effort of those involved in building this book street. There were many difficulties that seemed insurmountable, but we all worked together to overcome them, and the Thu Duc book street project has become a reality today. Without the heartfelt dedication and cultural appreciation of the people of Thu Duc City and their love for books, this Thu Duc book street would never have become a reality. We are aware that building the book street was difficult, but maintaining and developing it in the future will be even more challenging, as the state management agency for the publishing industry and the maintenance of reading culture in the city. We all hope that the Thu Duc book street will become a new cultural highlight, a space for spreading knowledge through books, contributing to improving spiritual life and contributing to the development of the city." Following the inauguration ceremony, the Thu Duc City Book Street Welcome Week, officially opening and celebrating the New Year 2024, will take place from December 22nd to January 12th, 2024, promising many interesting and meaningful activities.
The symbol of Thu Duc City has been unveiled.
On the same occasion, Thu Duc City announced the city's urban symbol: a sunflower mascot. The sunflower symbol is recognized as a friendly symbol of Thu Duc City.
The sunflower logo design represents the excitement, dynamism, creativity, and aspiration for Thu Duc City to reach new heights. At the same time, it conveys a multifaceted message about friendly development, positive interaction with the community, and the promotion of green, modern, and sustainable development for Thu Duc City.
With its vibrant yellow color, the sunflower, like a small shining sun, symbolizes generosity and a constant yearning for the source of light, turning towards the East to welcome the dawn.
