From the end of March until now, Nam Dong Market has been deployed to create a "new breeze" for this mountainous district every weekend. During the holidays of April 3 and May 30, the Nam Dong Market activity attracted a large number of tourists inside and outside the district to visit for shopping and entertainment.

The sales area at Nam Dong fair is divided into 4 areas, with 36 stalls from 50 participating establishments, including: OCOP product display area; food sales area of ​​ethnic minorities; zones selling agricultural products and local specialties; the area selling refreshments, snacks…

Through the fairs, most of the food stalls, refreshments, and snacks are quite large, sold out early, and some stalls do not have enough goods to serve the needs of tourists and residents. The exhibition area sells OCOP products, handicrafts, rural industrial products, souvenirs, gifts and agricultural products, and packaged processed foods with less sales. In the area selling agricultural products and local specialties, the amount of products displayed for sale and consumption has decreased and gradually stabilized over the sessions (due to the weekly time, the output of agricultural products cannot be served in time).

In addition to activities for selling and promoting products, Nam Dong Fair also organizes cultural exchanges and performances, creating a joyful atmosphere for the destination, increasing the attraction of tourists. This is also a good opportunity to promote and introduce images of the homeland, people and traditional culture of ethnic groups in the district.

Thanks to the efforts in the organization and promotion, the model of Nam Dong Market has initially achieved positive effects, creating a highlight for the tourism product of the home district with a total of about 1.900 visitors/time in the first 5 fairs. Resonating with the effects of the fair, during the holidays of April 30 and May 4, the whole district recorded nearly 1 visitors (5 guests staying) with a total revenue of more than 5.900 billion VND. Compared to the same period last year, the number of visitors increased by 1.391% and the revenue increased by 1,4%.

Professionalize tourism products

With the characteristics of a large number of Co Tu ethnic minorities living, the development of community tourism to exploit the available potential in combination with creating jobs and income for the people is considered a "guideline" for this mountainous district.

Although the direction has been determined, in fact the development of community-based tourism in Nam Dong still faces many difficulties. At the community eco-tourism site in Doi village (Thuong Lo commune), although it has launched tours and routes with its own identity, the activities are only seasonal, the service and accommodation infrastructure system is not attractive enough to retain guests for a long time. With the tourist destination YesHue Eco (Waterfall Mo), after a long time affected by the epidemic, it has initially recovered, recording a large number of visitors to visit and experience in the hot season.

Ms. Dinh Thu Ha, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City. According to Ho Chi Minh City, community-based tourism in Nam Dong has the potential to be exploited more effectively. What visitors need is professionalism and diligence to launch more professional tourism products.

In early 2023, in order to contribute to solving the above situation, Nam Dong District People's Committee coordinated with the project "Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam" to organize a training session to support people in Doi village to do tourism. This is the first time the whole village has been instructed to join hands in tourism, instead of just a few households as before. Everyone is excited to join hands to clean up the environment, renovate the landscape and install a lighting system to be ready to serve visitors.

Mr. Ho Van Than, a resident of the village, shared that he hoped that after being supported and guided by the local government and the project in the direction of holding hands, tourism in Doi village would be more prosperous.

From the beginning of the year until now, Nam Dong District People's Committee has repeatedly coordinated with the Department of Tourism, the Provincial Tourism Association, the Provincial Travel Association, the Tourism Association and the City Travel Association. Da Nang organizes a program to survey tourism products in Nam Dong district.

This is an activity to communicate and promote existing tourism products in Nam Dong to stimulate tourism demand; assess the current status and quality of products; reshaping the potential of eco-tourism and community-based tourism in Nam Dong district; propose solutions to improve the quality of tourism products in the coming time.

According to information from Nam Dong District People's Committee, in 2022, the whole district will welcome 16.750 visitors (5.147 guests staying) with an estimated revenue of 4.060 million VND (an increase of 15.053 visitors and 3.478 million VND compared to 2021). Commercial activities, restaurant services, motels and eco-tourism activities in the area remained stable, the homestay model initially developed, tourist attractions regularly attracted domestic and foreign tourists to visit more.

In the coming time, the whole district will focus on improving the quality of customer service and expanding activities of various types of tourism and services; well exploit eco-tourism sites in combination with streams and waterfalls in the area.
