"After discovering the issue, we instructed the head coach to return the entire amount to the athlete and handle the matter immediately," Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education Nguyen Hong Minh stated at a press conference of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism .
Last week, public opinion was stirred by reports about the 800,000 VND meal allowance for athletes in the National Youth Table Tennis Team, which was deemed insufficient to satisfy their hunger. Additionally, Head Coach Bui Xuan Ha was accused of collecting unauthorized fees from athletes. The coach explained to the Department of Sports and Physical Education that these were funds the athletes had asked him to hold for them and would return at the end of the year.

Currently, Coach Bui Xuan Ha is no longer the head coach of the National Youth Table Tennis Team. The Department of Sports and Physical Education has decided to stop his training and appoint someone else to replace him.
Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Minh added: " The practice of holding money for others appeared after March. According to the head coach's report, the team had 10 athletes training, of which 7 athletes had their payments deposited into their parents' accounts, and 3 orphaned athletes had their payments transferred directly to their personal accounts. During their time with the team, these athletes were scammed online and lost all the money in their accounts, so they transferred it to the coach to hold for them."
Following complaints about the training arrangements for the national youth table tennis team, the Department of Sports and Physical Education immediately moved the athletes to the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi for accommodation and training, instead of the National Sports Complex as before. The Department of Sports and Physical Education is continuing to verify and clarify the responsibilities of the relevant units to take appropriate action, while also expanding the review to other national teams.
"Following the incident involving the table tennis team, we gathered some information related to other teams. The leaders of the Department of Sports and Physical Education instructed the relevant departments to review and assess the situation. Based on reports from the units, if similar violations are found, they will be dealt with strictly in accordance with regulations," said Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Minh.
