Linking and effectively exploiting potential

In recent years, Thai Nguyen province and Bac Kan province (before the merger) have implemented many flexible solutions to make tourism an important economic sector, such as attracting investors, encouraging local people with tourist attractions to participate in tourism activities, and developing new products. In particular, members of the Provincial Tourism Association have actively participated, contributing to the successful achievement of the province's tourism development goals.

Over the past five years, the tourism associations of the two provinces have achieved many successes thanks to the effective exploitation of tourism resources, focusing on resort and eco-tourism associated with history, culture, and spirituality.

Thanks to its open mechanisms and policies, the province has attracted many large projects, especially at Nui Coc Lake, the eastern slopes of Tam Dao, Ba Be Lake, and the ATK Dinh Hoa National Special Historical Site. Many large-scale projects such as the 5-star Nui Coc Lake resort and the golf course in Dai Phuc commune have attracted capable investors.

Currently, the province has nearly 1,200 historical and cultural relics, scenic spots, and about 700 intangible cultural heritage sites. Many of these sites attract large numbers of people, domestic and international tourists, such as the National Historical Relic Site at the memorial location of the Youth Volunteers of Company 915, Team 91, Bac Thai, or the Special National Relic Site of Thai Nguyen province.

Besides historical and cultural relics, Thai Nguyen, known as the "First-Class Tea Region," also boasts famous scenic spots such as Nui Coc Lake, Ba Be Lake, Phuong Hoang Cave, Than Sa archaeological site, and other destinations recognized by the Provincial People's Committee.

Each historical site, scenic spot, and intangible cultural heritage is an invaluable resource for tourism development, and the more it is exploited, the richer its value becomes. Through tourists, cultural values are widely disseminated.

One attractive aspect for tourists visiting Thai Nguyen is that they are not overcharged during their stay and sightseeing. During peak season each year, most members of the Tourism Association register to participate in promotional programs, offering discounts on rooms and gifts ranging from 10% to 25%.

In order to improve the quality of tourism services, members of the Provincial Tourism Association proactively invest in upgrading facilities and coordinate with relevant agencies to organize training and improve the professional skills of their staff.

According to compiled data from the Tourism Management Department (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism), the province currently has 785 accommodation establishments, including 9 three-star hotels, 7 two-star hotels, 3 one-star hotels, 73 hotels meeting minimum standards for serving guests, 521 tourist guesthouses, more than 120 houses with rooms for rent, and more than 100 large-capacity restaurants, many of which are high-quality restaurants capable of serving groups of 1,000 guests at once.

Many new accommodations have captivated tourists with their names, such as Hai Dang Homestay; Mr. Hung Man Homestay; Suoi Mo Guesthouse… in Bo Lu and Coc Toc villages, Ba Be commune.

Sharing with us, Mr. Dong Van Loi, Director of Dong Loi Cooperative, Na Chom village, Dong Phuc commune, said: "We have a new tourism product: organizing experiences for tourists to enjoy Then singing and Tinh playing on rafts on the Ta Leng River. The journey takes tourists downstream from the Hua Ma cave to Ba Be Lake."

Meanwhile, Ms. Dam Quynh Mai, owner of Quynh Mai Homestay in Bo Lu village, Ba Be commune, said: "We develop tourism based on the traditional cultural values of our ethnic groups. Tourists are very interested in experiencing working in the fields, harvesting wild vegetables, and fishing with the locals; in the evening, they cook together by the fire, drink fermented rice wine, and listen to traditional folk songs like sli, luon, and then..."

Towards sustainable development

In the last five years, the tourism industry in the two provinces of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan (before the merger) welcomed nearly 19 million visitors, bringing in total revenue of nearly 16 trillion VND. Although the revenue is not yet substantial, tourism has affirmed its important role in the economic development of the provinces.

When the tourism associations of the two provinces merged, many new opportunities opened up thanks to the abundant tourism resources. In particular, tourism businesses in the province have cooperated and reached a consensus in caring for and serving tourists.

Exploration and adventure tourism in caves and streams throughout the province are increasingly attracting a large number of adventurous tourists.

Mr. Nguyen Tung Lam, Head of the Tourism Management Department, enthusiastically stated: "The members of the Tourism Association joining forces will create greater synergy. The image of Thai Nguyen's homeland and people will be promoted more widely to friends both domestically and internationally…"

Following the provincial merger, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Tourism Association currently has 198 members. These members provide stable employment and income for thousands of workers. Tourism businesses and establishments in the province are generally strong enough to meet the needs of tourists from all over the world for sightseeing and experiences.

Sharing his experience in tourism with the Thai Nguyen Provincial Tourism Association, Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, emphasized: To achieve sustainable development, the Tourism Association needs practical orientations that are appropriate to the local characteristics, focusing on improving service quality and increasing total revenue, instead of following the majority in the industry.

As the Head of the Northern Vietnam Tourism Cluster, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Tourism Association has signed numerous cooperation agreements with dozens of tourism associations across the country. These traditional and new partnerships have opened opportunities for exchanging tourists, sharing experiences, and helping each member to confidently pursue their development. The beautiful image of Thai Nguyen's land and people is carried by tourists far and wide, with the members of the Provincial Tourism Association playing a significant role in this success.

Tourism tours and routes linking the Viet Bac - Northeast region and from many provinces and cities nationwide to Thai Nguyen are being strongly promoted. The Provincial Tourism Association has successfully connected with potential markets such as ASEAN, Northeast Asia, and Europe. Facing these new opportunities, Mr. Do Trong Hiep shared: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together. Members of the Provincial Tourism Association have been and are joining hands to go further together.”
