The event has become one of Boyaca's most iconic cultural festivals, attracting thousands of visitors each year.

According to visitors, the "tomato battle" created a lively atmosphere and was a unique experience, attracting a large number of locals and tourists from all over to participate.
Tourist Javier said the festival uses substandard tomatoes donated by local farmers. When the Colombian national anthem plays, the "tomato fight" officially begins, and everyone joins in throwing tomatoes, quickly turning the area red in a lively atmosphere. Meanwhile, tourist Juan Miguel Rios shared that this was his first time attending the event and he was very excited to experience firsthand the famous festival that he had only known about through videos on the internet.
In addition to the traditional "tomato battle," the festival also offers many unique activities such as street parades, sports competitions, culinary demonstrations, and local farmers' markets. This diverse series of events not only creates a vibrant atmosphere for locals and tourists but also contributes to promoting local agricultural products, culture, and tourism.

Besides the "tomato battle," the festival also features many unique cultural, sporting , and culinary activities, contributing to the promotion of tourism and local agricultural products.
The festival was first held in 2005 and was inspired by the famous La Tomatina tomato festival in the town of Bunol, Spain. However, this idea was adapted by farmers and organizers in Colombia to promote tourism and stimulate the local economy.

Dozens of tons of tomatoes dyed the streets of Sutamarchan, Boyaca State, Colombia, red during the 16th annual Tomato Festival.
