Tran Anh Khoa's career suffered a major setback in September 2015. A dangerous foul by his opponent in the match between Song Lam Nghe An and Da Nang in round 25 of the V.League left the midfielder seriously injured.

Tran Anh Khoa then underwent many surgeries and treatments over the next 2 years. However, he was unable to return to competition and decided to retire at the age of 26.

The former player born in 1991 was given the opportunity by his home club, Da Nang, to transition to coaching. Tran Anh Khoa attended coaching certification classes and was assigned to work at Da Nang's youth team. In 2024, he was an assistant coach of the U21 team.
