Building upon the qualities and traditions of the Ho Chi Minh's Army on the economic front during the đổi mới (renovation) period, the Veterans' Associations at all levels in the province have effectively implemented the movement "Veterans helping each other reduce poverty and excel in economic activities". This has unleashed the potential, intelligence, experience, and creativity of its members, contributing to the promotion of socio-economic development.

The province currently has over 70,000 war veterans participating in more than 1,300 branches. To spread the movement of war veterans competing in economic development and helping each other reduce poverty, the War Veterans Association at all levels focuses on disseminating information and mobilizing members to change their way of thinking and doing things, transforming the structure of crops and livestock as well as forms of production and business.

In coordination with relevant agencies and departments, organize training and guidance on livestock and crop farming techniques; provide support with seedlings and livestock, and create conditions for members to borrow capital for economic development at low interest rates; organize visits to economic models inside and outside the province…

In 2024, the Veterans' Association at all levels in the province received entrusted funds of over 761 billion VND from the Social Policy Bank, providing loans to more than 6,000 members for economic development. They also mobilized and built up an internal fund of 78 billion VND to support mutual economic development. Simultaneously, they organized over 70 training courses to improve knowledge and provide technical guidance on livestock farming and crop cultivation, attracting thousands of cadres and members.

This helps members raise awareness, access scientific and technological advancements, and confidently invest in building suitable production and business models that yield high economic efficiency.

Currently, the province has 300 small and medium-sized enterprises, 55 cooperatives, 253 cooperative groups, 1,263 farms, 2,844 family farms, and 10,549 small-scale handicraft and service businesses owned by war veterans, creating jobs for nearly 42,000 workers. Among these, 7 enterprises have annual revenue exceeding 50 billion VND and 7 enterprises have annual revenue exceeding 10 billion VND.

Typical examples include Vinh Yen Footwear Joint Stock Company owned by veteran Le Thanh Thuy (Vinh Yen); Song Tinh Limited Company owned by veteran Mai Thi Hong Nguyen (Phuc Yen); Solid Waste Treatment Enterprise owned by veteran Do Vinh Thanh (Phuc Yen); Phu Vinh Limited Company owned by veteran Pham Quang Vinh (Tam Duong); Vinh Thinh General Trading Limited Company owned by veteran Do Van Nguong (Vinh Tuong)...

After returning to his hometown after his military service, veteran Nguyen Chi Hiep, from Tam Ha village, Thien Ke commune (Binh Xuyen district), embarked on economic development, determined to become wealthy right on his homeland. In 2007, Mr. Hiep invested over 200 million VND to rent more than 4 hectares, renovate and build chicken coops to raise 2,000 broiler and laying hens.

Thanks to diligent research, learning, and experience sharing, along with the application of a closed-loop farming process and proactive disease prevention and control, the family's chicken flock has thrived and yielded high economic returns. To date, Mr. Hiep's chicken farming model has expanded to over 50,000 chickens, generating an average income of over 1 billion VND per year.

Besides developing the economy and enriching himself, Mr. Hiep also actively supports the provision of breeding stock and shares his chicken farming experience with war veterans and local people.

By promoting the movement "Veterans helping each other reduce poverty and excel in economic activities," the living standards of veteran association members in the province have been steadily improving. The percentage of well-off and wealthy veteran households in the province has reached nearly 68%; the poverty rate has decreased to 0.19%.

Comrade Le Anh Thu, Chairman of the Provincial Veterans Association, stated: “On the economic front, the province's veterans are always courageous and resilient, continuing the glorious tradition of 'Uncle Ho's soldiers.' They continue to learn and constantly research economic models; they are astute and decisive in applying science and technology to production and business. They are always willing to share and help those in difficult circumstances, supporting each other in economic development and daily life. As a result, many examples of veterans who have legitimately become wealthy have emerged, making a positive contribution to the development of their homeland and country.”

In the coming period, the Veterans' Associations at all levels in the province will continue to set forth positive action directions to further promote the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the economic field. They will encourage members to boldly invest in expanding production scale, effectively applying scientific and technological advancements to production, and aiming to build sustainable joint ventures and linkages.

In addition, they actively participate in social welfare activities, support the "Comradeship Fund," and uphold exemplary roles in the "Veterans Helping Each Other Reduce Poverty and Excel in Economic Activities" movement, contributing to the sustainable socio-economic development of the province.
