After years of service on the battlefield fighting against the Americans since 1968, upon returning to his hometown, Mr. Dinh Thua Tu embarked on developing his family's economy . Building on the foundation of a seasoned soldier, he demonstrated an unwavering spirit in the face of economic difficulties during the subsidy period and challenges from natural disasters such as the 2002 floods. With perseverance and the vision of a farmer, he successfully built an effective garden-based economic model.

Leading us on a tour of his 800-tree Thai jackfruit orchard, intercropped with durian trees over two years old, the veteran, with a strong face and resolute eyes, said in a firm voice: “This orchard covers more than 10 acres, converted from unproductive rice fields. After researching the soil, climate, and market, I decided to plant Thai jackfruit and durian as an intercrop. However, the main crop is still jackfruit. I invested in an automatic sprinkler irrigation system, so the care is less strenuous. To ensure high yields, I always maintain a layer of grass around the base of the trees to retain moisture and regulate soil nutrients for optimal growth. Each year, I harvest two jackfruit crops, earning a profit of 3-5 million VND per acre per crop.”

This model not only ensures a stable income but also affirms the shrewdness, boldness, and application of scientific and technological advancements in production and business of farmer Dinh Thua Tu. His efforts and achievements have been recognized with many prestigious titles, including a certificate of merit for outstanding farmer in production and business at the provincial level, along with a commemorative medal from the Vietnam Farmers' Association . He proves that the unwavering will of a soldier is the most valuable asset for enriching oneself on one's homeland.

Not stopping there, he is also very successful in producing high-quality rice on an area of over 5 hectares, with a company guaranteeing the purchase of the entire crop. This model applies science and technology from sowing to spraying pesticides, significantly reducing labor costs. With a mechanized system and modern spraying equipment, workers expend less effort, limit direct contact with chemicals, and protect their health.

Besides his economic activities, veteran Dinh Thua Tu is also an active figure in social work, enthusiastically participating in the activities of the local veterans' association and the local education promotion association. In particular, he pioneered the interest-free revolving fund at the Vinh Thanh hamlet Veterans' Association branch, providing capital assistance to many disadvantaged members to stabilize their production. Furthermore, with his reputation and dedication, he personally contributes nearly 20 million VND each season and actively mobilizes the people to contribute funds for repairing and maintaining rural roads, significantly improving rural transportation infrastructure.

Chairman of the Veterans Association of Vinh Trach commune, Huynh Van Phung, affirmed: “Mr. Dinh Thua Tu is a shining example of self-reliance and self-improvement. He not only effectively develops his family's economy but also maintains the qualities of a soldier of Uncle Ho in his association work, always being pioneering and exemplary, especially in helping comrades in difficult circumstances and participating in building new rural areas. He is a typical member for veterans in the commune to emulate.”

Having endured the rain of bombs and bullets, and directly experienced the fierce years of war, veterans like Mr. Tu deeply understand and appreciate the value of peace. “I dedicate myself to hard work, competing in production, applying science and technology to enrich my family and create practical value, doing many meaningful things for my homeland. Because the unwavering will of Uncle Ho's soldiers is an invaluable asset, a flame of enthusiasm that motivates me to continue contributing to building a more prosperous and beautiful land,” Mr. Tu shared.

During the 2022-2025 term, the Veterans Association of Vinh Trach commune fulfilled the targets set forth in the congress resolution, including: mobilizing social resources to build 3 new houses and repair 4 houses for comrades in need, with a total cost of over 400 million VND; facilitating 45 members to borrow capital for production, totaling over 1.7 billion VND; and coordinating the timely resolution of policies and benefits for meritorious individuals and members. 100% of cadres and members actively studied and followed the ideology, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh, contributing to building an increasingly strong association.
