Veterans get rich

After years of dedication on the battlefield against the American invaders since 1968, returning to his hometown, Mr. Dinh Thua Tu started to develop his family's economy . From the foundation of a seasoned soldier, he showed his will to not succumb to the difficulties of the subsidized economy or the challenges of natural disasters such as the flood in 2002. With the perseverance and vision of a farmer, he successfully built an effective garden economic model.

Leading us to visit the Thai jackfruit garden with 800 trees intercropped with durian trees that are more than 2 years old, the veteran with a strong face and upright eyes said firmly: “This garden has an area of more than 10 hectares, converted from ineffective rice land. After studying the soil, climate and market, I decided to plant Thai jackfruit and durian intercropped. However, the main crop is still jackfruit. I invested in an automatic sprinkler irrigation system so taking care of it is less difficult. To make the jackfruit garden productive, I always keep a layer of grass around the base to keep moisture and regulate nutrients in the soil for the trees to grow well. Every year, I harvest 2 jackfruit crops, with a profit of 3-5 million VND/hectare/crop”.

This model not only ensures a stable source of income but also affirms the acumen, daring to think, daring to do, applying scientific and technical advances to production and business of farmer Dinh Thua Tu. His efforts and achievements are recognized by many noble titles, including the certificate of merit for good production and business farmers at the provincial level, along with the commemorative medal of the Vietnam Farmers' Association . He proves that the indomitable will of a soldier is the most valuable asset to get rich on the homeland.

Not stopping there, he is very successful in producing high quality rice on an area of over 5 hectares, with a company to purchase. This model applies science and technology from sowing to spraying, helping to significantly reduce labor. With a mechanized system and spraying with modern machinery, workers save effort, limit direct contact with chemicals, helping to protect health.

Besides doing business, veteran Dinh Thua Tu is also an active member of social work, enthusiastically participating in the activities of the veterans association and the local education promotion association. In particular, he pioneered the interest-free revolving fund at the Vinh Thanh hamlet Veterans Association, helping many members with difficulties to stabilize production. Not only that, with his prestige and enthusiasm, he spent nearly 20 million VND out of his own pocket each crop season and actively mobilized people to contribute funds to repair and patch internal roads, contributing to significantly improving rural traffic infrastructure.

Chairman of the Vinh Trach Commune Veterans Association Huynh Van Phung affirmed: “Mr. Dinh Thua Tu is a shining example of self-reliance and self-strengthening. He not only effectively develops his family economy but also maintains the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the association's work, always being a pioneer and exemplary, especially in helping comrades in difficult circumstances and participating in the construction of new rural areas. He is a typical member for veterans in the commune to follow.”

Having gone through the rain of bombs and bullets, directly experiencing the fierce years of fire and smoke, veterans like Mr. Tu understand and deeply appreciate the value of peace. “I devote myself to working, competing in production, applying science and technology to enrich my family and create practical values, doing many meaningful things for my homeland. Because the indomitable will of Uncle Ho's soldiers is a priceless asset, a flame of enthusiasm for me to continue to contribute, contributing to building the land I love more and more rich and beautiful”, Mr. Tu shared.

In the 2022 - 2025 term, the Vinh Trach Commune Veterans Association completed the targets set out in the congress resolution such as: Mobilizing socialization to build 3 new houses, repair 4 houses of comradeship, with a cost of more than 400 million VND; introducing 45 members to borrow capital for production, with a total amount of over 1.7 billion VND; coordinating to promptly resolve policies and regimes for people with meritorious services and members. 100% of cadres and members actively study and follow Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, contributing to building an increasingly strong association.
