Speaking to Tri Thuc - Znews , the leader of the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone (Ho Chi Minh City) said that on May 14, two environmental sanitation workers promptly rescued two rare sea turtles that were caught in nets and struggling, showing signs of exhaustion while collecting garbage at sea.
Two staff members gently approached the turtle, cut away the netting wrapped around its body, and released it safely back into the sea.
According to the special administrative region's leaders, in addition to saving rare and strictly protected sea turtles, this action also spreads a powerful message about love for nature and awareness of protecting the marine environment. These are ordinary people who have contributed to preserving life in the blue ocean.
Con Dao Special Zone boasts a rich marine ecosystem with mangrove forests, seagrass beds, and coral reefs. Studies have recorded approximately 1,725 species of marine life, including many rare species. Con Dao is also one of the places with the highest number of sea turtles nesting in Vietnam, playing an important role in the Southeast Asia-Indian Ocean region.

However, the problem of plastic waste and abandoned fishing nets in the sea still poses a potential risk to marine life. Over time, the special economic zone has gradually built a green, clean, and beautiful image, promoting sustainable development and regularly strengthening environmental protection activities, wildlife rescue, and raising community awareness about preserving the marine ecosystem.
At the same time, tourists are encouraged to join hands in reducing plastic waste to preserve the greenness of Con Dao by bringing their own water bottles, using environmentally friendly cloth and paper bags, limiting the use of small-capacity bottled water, and saying no to single-use plastic products.
When visiting Con Dao, tourists can experience watching turtles lay eggs, releasing baby turtles, snorkeling to admire coral reefs, exploring the forest, or observing seabirds.
In addition, the area boasts a system of important historical sites such as Con Dao Prison, Hang Duong Cemetery, Hang Keo Cemetery, and cultural landmarks like Nui Mot Pagoda, Ba Phi Yen Temple, and Cau Temple.
