Diversify activities to support farmers

In recent times, the Lao Cai Farmers' Association has actively implemented many service activities, consulting and supporting farmers to develop production and business.

Mr. Dang Thanh Thuy - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cat Thinh commune said: " To gain the trust and loyalty of members, the association must bring practical benefits, support the right needs, and at the right time so that farmers can confidently invest in production development."

Thanks to this flexible approach, in just over two years, the Cat Thinh Commune Farmers' Association has admitted 155 new members, bringing the total number of members in the commune to more than 1,450 people.

One of the most important supports is to create conditions for members to access preferential loans. The Commune Farmers' Association is managing more than 22 billion VND from the Social Policy Bank for nearly 400 members to borrow for production development. At the same time, the association stands as a credit guarantee for 17.5 billion VND of Agribank capital for 250 members.

Not only stopping at bank capital, the association also actively proposed the Provincial Farmers Support Fund to support loans for 2 projects of cinnamon planting and soft-shell turtle farming, helping 19 households access an additional 1.72 billion VND, opening up a direction for larger-scale, more systematic production.

From the capital and support of the association, many new economic models have emerged, bringing in high income and creating a ripple effect in the community. Currently, the whole Cat Thinh commune has over 200 production and business models with an income of 200 million VND/year or more, focusing on growing cinnamon, raising soft-shell turtles, developing fruit trees and other comprehensive economic models.

These models not only create jobs and increase income, but also help people boldly apply technology, change farming methods towards sustainability, and form large-scale commodity production areas to meet market demands.

Mr. Nguyen Van Bac - Van Hoa village, Cat Thinh commune shared: "When participating in the association, people receive a lot of support, especially support in plant and animal varieties to develop the economy. The Van Hoa village farmers' association currently has a number of households that have boldly invested in new livestock models. A typical example is the porcupine farming model, many porcupine farming households have an income of 200 million VND per year, contributing to improving life and creating motivation for people to continue expanding production."

In recent times, the Provincial Farmers' Association has accompanied farmer members in building new economic models. In the period of 2023 - 2025, the whole province has built and replicated 38 biosafety livestock models; 116 effective business models, especially models associated with cooperatives and cooperative groups.

The Association also consulted and supported branding for 51 agricultural products and 29 OCOP products, contributing to enhancing the value and competitiveness of local agricultural products. Many green, organic, circular, high-tech agricultural models associated with experiential tourism were implemented, promoting the transformation of agricultural structure towards sustainability.

The association at all levels has mobilized the establishment of 109 new cooperative groups and 55 new agricultural cooperatives. Up to now, the association has supported the establishment of 428 cooperative groups and 96 cooperatives , creating an important network for farmers to improve production capacity, reduce risks and increase product competitiveness.

Along with that, during the past term, the association at all levels organized many promotional and trade promotion activities. Coordinated with the Provincial Post Office to guide members to access e-commerce, set up 4,411 accounts to sell agricultural products on Postmart.vn/Agri-Postmart.vn, contributing to expanding the consumption market; maintained 7 safe agricultural product stores and brought OCOP products to participate in major domestic fairs.

The associations at all levels have promoted links with businesses to supply high-quality input materials in the form of interest-free deferred payments with 8,062 tons of fertilizer; 312 tons of seeds; 57 tons of pesticides; 442 tons of animal feed and 14,000 seedlings. The association has also actively advised and supported farmers in building net houses, barns, raising safe aquatic products and applying high technology in production. The associations at all levels have organized vocational training for 9,036 members, focusing on green, organic, circular agriculture and production model management.

At the same time, the association at all levels has many solutions to support capital and credit to help members develop production. Up to now, the Provincial Farmers Support Fund has reached 87.7 billion VND, with 160 projects being implemented, outstanding loans reaching 59.8 billion VND for 1,082 borrowers. Outstanding loans entrusted to the Social Policy Bank and Agribank have reached over 5,494 billion VND for 41,725 ​​borrowers, making an important contribution to the development of production and business.

Science and technology transfer activities continue to be focused with 839 training classes for 33,556 members; 9 classes on digital transformation in agricultural product consumption; livestream sales skills training for 360 members; installation of the "Vietnamese Farmers" digital platform for 84,627 members.

Along with that, the movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably" continues to make a remarkable mark throughout the term. Every year, about 60% of member households register to participate in the movement. Up to now, the whole province has had 55,176 households achieving the title of good farmers in production and business at all levels, affirming the key role of farmers in developing the rural economy and building a new life.
