According to Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, the leaders of Da Nang City are determined to promote the development of medical services into a tourism product to serve tourists. For nearly 10 years, this issue has been addressed by several dedicated units in the area such as Thien Nhan Hospital, the Traditional Medicine Hospital, Son Tra District Hospital, etc., but for various reasons, healthcare has not yet become a tourism product as expected.

"Compared to Da Nang's aspirations and existing conditions, the development of medical tourism is slow. However, at present, both the tourism and healthcare sectors of the city have identified the necessary components in terms of facilities, infrastructure, and services to build this product," said Mr. Tran Chi Cuong.

Mr. Cuong noted that in recent times, many public and private medical facilities in Da Nang have invested heavily in medical tourism services, from specialized equipment to improving the capacity of medical staff, and successfully applying many advanced and modern medical techniques.

According to him, the Central Government has tasked Da Nang with becoming one of the three national development centers, achieving double-digit GRDP growth annually. While double-digit growth might not be too difficult for other sectors, it is an extremely challenging task for Da Nang's tourism industry.

Since Da Nang's tourism sector is already quite developed, increasing its GRDP by even one percentage point is a huge challenge. There is no other way than to develop high value-added services such as healthcare and construction as tourism products. This is the foundation for the city's tourism service sector to continue its breakthrough growth.

Foreign visitors come to Thien Nhan Hospital (Da Nang) for medical examination and treatment.

To achieve this, Mr. Tran Chi Cuong emphasized that healthcare personnel should not only serve the healthcare sector but also the tourism sector, meaning they must possess tourism skills such as foreign languages and customer service etiquette. Conversely, tourism personnel must also grasp the most basic knowledge to guide and introduce healthcare products to tourists. Only then can the flow of these products between the two sectors be facilitated.

According to Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, the key issue is the need for truly close linkages within each healthcare-tourism sector and between the two sectors. Within each sector, there needs to be interwoven information, sharing, and mutual promotion of each unit's strengths; at the same time, there must be seamless collaboration between the two sectors to enhance the capacity of the workforce, strengthen promotion and development of medical tourism products.

“I believe that with the unified collaboration to create the highest quality products, Da Nang's medical tourism will soon develop and become a core product of the city's tourism service industry. So that when people think of medical tourism, it won't just be Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, but Da Nang will be a bright spot on the regional medical tourism map,” Mr. Tran Chi Cuong emphasized.
