The Office of the People's Committee of Da Nang City has announced Decision No. 917/QD-UBND dated March 16, 2026, approving the selection of the consortium of Hateco Group Joint Stock Company - Hateco Port Company Limited - APM Terminals BV (Netherlands) as the investor to implement the overall construction project of Lien Chieu Container Port.
The project is expected to be implemented in three phases from 2026 to 2036, gradually investing in port facilities and a synchronized hinterland system. The preliminary total investment is approximately VND 45,268 billion (equivalent to USD 1.757 billion); of which the investor's capital contribution is approximately VND 9,053.6 billion, and the remainder is mobilized from credit institutions.
According to the Decision, the project has a 10-year implementation schedule. The volume of container cargo handled through Lien Chieu Container Terminal after 3 years from the start of operation (phase 1) is 4 million TEU/year. The project's operating period lasts 50 years from the date of land allocation/land lease/sea area allocation.
The Lien Chieu Container Port master-project is a large-scale port infrastructure project in the Central region, envisioned to become a modern container port, an international transshipment center, and meeting green port standards. The project aligns with the detailed planning of port clusters, wharves, jetties, mooring buoys, water areas, and water zones for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
With an area of approximately 172.6 hectares, the project excludes the connecting water area, shipping channel, and shared turning basin within the Lien Chieu port area. The overall design capacity of the project is approximately 5.7 million TEU/year, equivalent to about 74 million tons of cargo/year. Of this, the operational capacity is expected to reach 14.25–36.3 million tons/year by 2030.
According to the plan, the Lien Chieu port area will have 8 container berths with a total wharf length of approximately 2,750 m, capable of receiving container ships up to 18,000 TEU. The berths are oriented towards applying modern loading and unloading technology and a high level of automation to improve operational efficiency and shorten ship turnaround time.
The project also includes a barge terminal capable of receiving vessels up to 5,000 tons, serving to consolidate and distribute cargo between the container terminal area and seaports and inland waterways, contributing to reducing pressure on the road system and logistics costs.
The port's hinterland area is equipped with a system of container warehouses, inspection yards, loading and unloading yards, and supporting facilities such as an operations center, service area, repair workshop, and technical infrastructure. Simultaneously, the project includes an investment in a cargo yard serving railway transport, directly connecting the Lien Chieu port area to the national railway network via a railway line to Kim Lien station, approximately 1.5 km long.
