The Dinh Lap pedestrian street is being developed along the inner-city road of Yen Lap, in Hamlet 7, Dinh Lap Commune. The street is 630 meters long and 8 meters wide. It operates every Saturday evening. The construction of the Dinh Lap pedestrian street contributes to creating a recreational space combined with commerce and services for the people and tourists. Furthermore, to ensure the cleanliness and beauty of the area, the local government and residents consider environmental protection a crucial task.
Ms. Be Thi Trang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dinh Lap commune, said: "In the past period, the People's Committee of the commune has directed specialized departments, in coordination with the waste collection unit and the people of Hamlet 7, to effectively carry out street cleaning. The commune leaders require the head of the hamlet to proactively disseminate information on environmental protection at all Party branch meetings and hamlet meetings, with Party members setting a good example for the people to follow. At the same time, the waste collection unit is required to deploy personnel to sweep and collect garbage (household waste, leaves, weeds, soil, stones, etc.), and to clean up rainwater, wastewater, and stagnant water on 100% of the road and sidewalk area of the street; and to spray water to wash the streets during hot weather or when the street has a lot of dust and household wastewater..."
With specific guidance from the People's Committee of Dinh Lap commune, in Hamlet 7, where recreational activities on the pedestrian street directly take place, environmental sanitation is always a priority. Mr. Nguyen Hung Manh, Party Secretary and Head of Hamlet 7, Dinh Lap commune, said: "To ensure environmental sanitation in the residential area, especially to serve the activities of the pedestrian street, we proactively educate households daily to dispose of garbage in designated areas; we organize 1 to 2 general cleanings of the entire hamlet each month; we organize signing of commitments with households on ensuring environmental sanitation, incorporating environmental sanitation into the hamlet's regulations, and coordinating with the garbage collection unit to ensure that the street is always clean and beautiful before, during, and after the activities of the pedestrian street."
Regarding household waste generated on Dinh Lap pedestrian street (approximately 2 tons per week), the Green Shirt One-Member Limited Liability Company is responsible for collecting and transporting it for processing. To ensure good environmental hygiene on the street, the company has instructed its collection teams to focus on cleaning before 4 PM every Saturday, and continue cleaning the following morning to maintain cleanliness. In addition, the company has placed over 10 mobile trash bins in suitable locations where activities are held; and it coordinates with local authorities and relevant units to promptly resolve any issues related to environmental hygiene in the area.
Mr. Tran Van Lang, a tourist from Quang Ninh province, shared: "I've been to Dinh Lap pedestrian street twice. I find it beautifully decorated, with a spacious and airy atmosphere. The environmental hygiene is excellent; from what I've observed, locals and tourists are very conscious of not littering and disposing of trash properly. Even with a large number of visitors, it remains very neat and clean."
In the coming time, besides the efforts of the local government and waste collection units, it is essential for the people to join hands in maintaining environmental hygiene so that the pedestrian street in Dinh Lap commune continues to be an interesting and attractive destination not only for local residents but also for tourists nationwide.
