US Vice President JD Vance boarded a plane departing Pakistan at 7:08 a.m. local time on April 12. Earlier, Vice President Vance stated that Iran refused to make concessions on nuclear weapons development at the conclusion of the first round of negotiations.

In a three-minute press conference before boarding the plane, US Vice President JD Vance emphasized that negotiations had not made any significant progress as the two sides still had many disagreements.

Mr. Vance expressed his gratitude and left without answering any further questions. The US Vice President also stated that he had been continuously discussing the negotiations with US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Admiral Brad Cooper, head of the US Central Command.

“We are in constant contact with the team because we are negotiating in good faith,” Vance said. Vice President JD Vance said talks between the U.S. and Iran ended without an agreement after Iran refused to accept U.S. terms on not developing nuclear weapons.

“The United States needs a clear commitment that Iran will not seek nuclear weapons, nor will it build the tools that would allow it to rapidly acquire nuclear weapons,” Vance told reporters. “That is a prerequisite the President has set, and that is what we have been trying to achieve through these negotiations.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson responded to Iranian media following comments by Vice President JD Vance.

Esmail Baghaei said Iran and the US had "reached a common understanding on some issues" and that there were still "differences in opinion on 2-3 important issues."

“These negotiations were held 40 days after the war was imposed and took place in an atmosphere of distrust and suspicion. Naturally, we couldn’t have expected to reach an agreement in just one meeting,” Baghaei said. “Nobody expected that at all.”

Earlier, Baghaei had said that the success of the negotiations depended on “the seriousness and goodwill of the opposing side” and the acceptance of the rules.
