The Portuguese Air Force was deployed to rescue a family from their sinking yacht after it was repeatedly rammed by a pod of orca, according to The Sun.
Three children, aged 8, 10, and 12, were on an 11-meter yacht flying the French flag. Their parents managed to send a distress signal and board a life raft before the vessel, believed to have been holed after a collision, began to sink.
The rescue was confirmed yesterday, October 13th, by the Portuguese Air Force, after they posted footage showing the moment the survivors were taken from the fishing boat in mid-September.

"An Air Force EH-101 Merlin helicopter was scrambled to rescue five people on a yacht traveling more than 50 km from Peniche," an air force spokesperson said. The entire family was hospitalized and received assistance from French consular officials to return home.
This incident occurred less than a month after a pod of orca sank a yacht off the coast of Portugal in another dangerous attack. The sailboat, carrying five people, sank after the orca repeatedly rammed its hull near Fonte da Telha beach.
The footage shows an orca repeatedly ramming the sailboat, belonging to the Nautic Squad. After multiple collisions, the boat tilted dangerously from side to side before slowly sinking. Five people on board the Nautic Squad were rescued while nearby vessels attempted to tow it to safety but were unsuccessful.
The yacht was sunk by killer whales off the coast of Portugal in September.
In July, a pod of orca nearly capsized a yacht, terrifying the crew. This horrific encounter took place 3.2 kilometers north of the Spanish town of Deba.
Killer whales off the coast of Iberia typically average between 5 and 6.5 meters in length. They are considerably smaller than killer whales in Antarctica, which can grow to over 9 meters in length.
Killer whale attacks on boats typically occur between May and August, but many researchers don't believe they are inherently aggressive; rather, they are simply... bored and therefore cause trouble.
