In My Qui hamlet, everyone knows Nguyen Trung An. To them, "Hamlet An" is an approachable, enthusiastic person who actively participates in community service activities. Starting as deputy hamlet head 10 years ago, An was determined to perform his assigned duties well. In 2017, when he took over as hamlet head, he became even more actively involved in social welfare activities, especially providing housing support for people in difficult circumstances.

“People need a roof over their heads; no one wants to live in a dilapidated house. Understanding the wishes of the people, I often review, investigate, and listen to their aspirations. From there, I propose that members of the My Qui Hamlet People's Committee and the Party Branch strive to support 1-2 houses for disadvantaged households each year. Because this is a meaningful endeavor, everyone agrees and is highly supportive,” said Mr. Nguyen Trung An.
Thanks to the support of the My Qui hamlet's charity and social organization, and the generosity of the local people, six new houses were built for poor households in the hamlet. The total cost raised was 120 million VND, with the remainder contributed by the families themselves. Two of these houses are part of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing. Each house has a sturdy structure and can provide shelter from rain and sun for many years. Currently, "An hamlet" continues to review cases needing assistance among its nearly 550 households. He said that for minor repairs, he will encourage residents to carry them out promptly to help them settle down.
As the Deputy Secretary of the Party Branch in the hamlet, Mr. Nguyen Trung An clearly understands President Ho Chi Minh's teachings on the "leading role" of Party members. He always proactively proposes social activities to serve the people. With the prestige he has gained, whenever Mr. An mobilizes support, the villagers readily offer their assistance. Those households who receive support grow to appreciate "An Hamlet" even more.
Welcoming us warmly into her new home, Mrs. Tran Thi Mi expressed: “My husband works as a laborer, so we barely make ends meet. With young children and my constant illnesses, our family is always struggling financially. Our old, dilapidated house caused us a lot of worry. Thanks to Mr. An's efforts in securing this new house, I am overjoyed. From now on, I can focus solely on working hard to improve our lives.”
In addition to advocating for housing for the people, Mr. Nguyen Trung An also called for the creation of a 1.5km stretch of clean, flower-lined road; the installation of solar-powered streetlights along the eastern bank of Canal 3; and the laying of gravel to prevent muddy conditions along the western bank of Canal 3… totaling over 136 million VND. He also contributed funds to provide free ambulance services for the Hoa Hao Buddhist Association of My Phu to serve poor patients.
“As a Party member, I must be close to the people, only then can I build trust and mobilize them to follow suit. Every road paved with gravel, every section of road illuminated at night, is the result of collective effort, demonstrating the unity of the people with the My Qui Hamlet People's Committee. I am only the one who mobilizes them; I cannot do everything myself. After many years of working closely with the people, I realize that if you earn their trust, they will follow you!” affirmed Mr. Nguyen Trung An.
For his positive contributions to local social welfare work, Mr. Nguyen Trung An was recognized as an exemplary figure in the patriotic emulation movement of Vinh Thanh Trung commune for the period 2020-2025. Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Thanh Trung commune, Le Tra Bao Khuong, commented: “Mr. Nguyen Trung An is a prime example of dedication and responsibility in his work. We hope that, in his role and position, he will continue to be a role model of enthusiasm, further uniting Party members and people of My Qui hamlet to contribute to building a more developed Vinh Thanh Trung homeland.”
