Is the US Democratic Party accelerating the nomination process for Biden?

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is expected to officially nominate Joe Biden as its presidential candidate as early as July 21st. This move aims to end speculation about a potential replacement for Biden following his underwhelming performance in the June 27th debate against Republican opponent Donald Trump.

The Democratic Party had previously planned to nominate Biden before the party convention in August. However, an early nomination would quell internal party discussions about calling for a replacement for Biden, while also strengthening party unity.

The DNC will hold several meetings from July 16th to 21st to finalize the rules and procedures for the vote. Two sources familiar with the matter from the Democratic Party also confirmed that the Democrats are likely to set July 21st, just three days after the Republican Party is expected to officially nominate Donald Trump.

The first live debate between Biden and Trump in the 2024 presidential election season took place on June 27 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Biden's performance was considered to have fallen short of expectations.

Biden's campaign team explained that this was due to him having a cold and being "over-prepared." On the other hand, they argued that CNN moderators failed to fact-check Trump's statements during the debate.

Biden's team has also dismissed speculation that he will withdraw from the race. Members of his family have also supported his continued campaign.
