The journey from outstanding Youth Union member to Party member at age 18.
At the age of 18, when many students are busy preparing for university, Nguyen Vi Thao, a student in class 12A12 at Cao Ba Quat High School in Gia Lam, received an even more special milestone: joining the ranks of the Communist Party.
During the solemn induction ceremony, as the oath of party members resounded under the Party flag and the national flag, emotion was clearly visible on the female students' faces. For Thảo, it was not only a source of pride for her school years but also the beginning of a new journey with greater responsibilities.
"It's a source of immense pride. At the same time, it reminds me to be more responsible for myself in my studies and training to contribute to building and developing the country," Thảo shared.
Few people know that behind that party membership card lay three years of persistent effort. Throughout her high school years, Thảo consistently achieved the title of outstanding student, served as class president for three consecutive years, and actively participated in school activities as well as youth union work. It was this process of learning and self-improvement that led to her being recommended to attend a Party awareness training course before officially being admitted.

Thao is not alone; many other students have also chosen this path through daily effort. Hoang Khanh Vy, a student in class 12A7 at Cao Ba Quat High School in Gia Lam, said she set a goal of becoming a Party member since 11th grade. From participating in the school's Youth Union Executive Committee to clubs and extracurricular activities, everything has been an opportunity for her to improve herself.
"As a young Party member, I have many ambitions and will try to use my youthful energy to contribute to the country," Vi shared when talking about her plans after entering university.
For Nguyen Doan Huong Tra, a student in class 12A4 at Cao Ba Quat High School in Gia Lam, the motivation to strive comes from a desire to contribute more to society. "I've always longed to join the Party because it's an organization that always cares about the people and the development of the country. I want to contribute my strength to help society and support those around me," Huong Tra expressed.
Three students with different backgrounds and goals, but they all share one thing in common: they view being admitted to the Party not as a reward for academic achievement, but as recognition of their entire process of self-improvement, dedication, and growth.
Not the destination, but the starting point.
According to Mr. Hoang Duc Thuan, Principal of Cao Ba Quat High School in Gia Lam, in order to have a Party member at the age of 18, the school begins the process of identifying and nurturing potential members right from the time students enter the 10th grade.
The Party branch, the school board, homeroom teachers, and the Youth Union organization will coordinate to monitor the learning and training process of each student. Students with good academic performance, exemplary morals, active participation in Youth Union activities, organizational skills, and a spirit of dedication will be assigned tasks and challenged through various movements before being recommended to participate in the Party awareness training course.
According to Mr. Thuan, the most important criteria are not simply academic achievements, but rather political acumen, moral character, proper motivation for striving, and a sense of responsibility towards the community.
Throughout this process, the Youth Union plays a crucial role in identifying and nurturing outstanding members. According to Ms. Nguyen Hong Nhung, Secretary of the Youth Union at Cao Ba Quat High School in Gia Lam, through volunteer activities, scientific research, cultural and artistic events, sports, and Youth Union work, capable and reputable students will be given opportunities to train and be tested before being recommended to the Party branch for consideration for membership.
Not only at Cao Ba Quat High School in Gia Lam, but also at many other high schools in the area, the work of developing Party members among students is being implemented.

At Co Loa High School in Dong Anh commune, Le Duc An is one of the students who recently had the honor of joining the Party. But for this young man, the induction ceremony is not the destination. "I don't see this as a destination to be satisfied with, but rather a new starting point full of challenges. Joining the Party comes with responsibility, reminding me to constantly improve myself and proactively participate more in community activities," Duc An shared.
According to Ms. Do Thi Dinh, Deputy Secretary of the Party Branch of Co Loa High School, each year the school selects about 20-25 outstanding students to participate in the Party awareness training course, but only those who fully meet the standards according to the Party Charter are considered for membership. In the last three school years, the school's Party Branch has admitted 7 students into the Party.
Meanwhile, Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong, Secretary of the Youth Union of Co Loa High School, said that student Party members are not only a source of pride for the school but also create a positive ripple effect among students, contributing to the cultivation of ideals, a sense of responsibility, and a spirit of dedication among young people.
In just a few weeks, Thao, Duc An, and many other 18-year-old Party members will leave high school to enter university and new learning environments. Ahead lie greater challenges, but what they carry with them is not just academic achievements or certificates of merit, but also the oath they took under the Party flag and a sense of responsibility as young Party members.
Therefore, receiving a Party membership card at the age of 18 is not just a recognition of the efforts made during one's school years. More importantly, it marks a milestone of maturity, a starting point for young people to continue learning, training, living responsibly, and contributing more to the community, worthy of the trust of the Party organization, teachers, and previous generations.
