Mohammad Ali Gandapur, the regional police chief, said the engineers were en route from Islamabad to their camp at the dam construction site in Dasu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan.

Gandapur stated: "Five Chinese citizens and their Pakistani driver were killed in the attack."
Dasu is home to a large dam, and the area has been attacked in the past. An explosion on a bus killed 13 people, including nine Chinese citizens, in 2021.
Chinese engineers are working on a number of projects in Pakistan, following Beijing's investment of more than $65 billion in infrastructure projects as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under the broader Belt and Road Initiative.
No group has claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attack, nor has anyone claimed responsibility for the 2021 attack.
A separate police source said the convoy was carrying employees of the China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC), a construction company working on the Dasu hydroelectric project – a company also targeted in 2021.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar condemned the attack and said the country would continue to fight insurgent and terrorist groups.
