For a long time, the Bang An Tower has been considered by researchers as a special case among the remaining Cham towers in Central Vietnam, and in 1989 it was officially classified as a national-level architectural and artistic monument. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, the French researcher Henri Parmentier remarked that this was a structure with a "strange appearance" in the history of Champa architecture due to its "unique" octagonal structure. According to many documents, the tower was built around the 11th century, approximately 21.5 meters high, with each side measuring 4 meters. The overall structure resembles a linga – a sacred symbolic phallus in Hinduism, associated with the worship of Shiva. Despite some erosion over more than a millennium, the structure has retained its distinctive architectural and aesthetic value.

According to Mr. Dang Cong Nhien, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Thang Ward, the relic is one of the important traces reflecting the development of Cham culture in the area, and also has great significance in researching the history, architecture, and culture of the region. However, currently, the area surrounding the relic has not received comprehensive investment in technical infrastructure and landscaping; access to the relic is limited, and there is a lack of functional areas to serve tourists... This partly affects the conservation and promotion of the relic's value as well as its potential for exploitation to serve the development of cultural tourism .
In March 2025, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province (formerly) approved the project for the preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of Bang An Tower with a total budget of nearly 8.4 billion VND. The project, managed by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, was initially scheduled for implementation between 2023 and 2025. However, in March 2026, the Department of Construction of Da Nang City decided to adjust and extend the project timeline to 2026.
