Put the interests of the people first.

Many roads in the city, once a nightmare for residents due to potholes, flooding, and prolonged localized traffic congestion, have now been transformed. This is the result of the city government's continuous efforts to listen to, absorb, and effectively address the legitimate concerns of voters, clearing the way for traffic flow to promote socio-economic development.

Spacious, clean and beautiful.

Previously, residents were understandably frustrated when mentioning the Hai Ba Trung and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai streets (the section from Guest House No. 2 to Quang Trung Bridge) in the Tan An market area, Ninh Kieu ward. Despite being a bustling business area, the transportation infrastructure here was inversely proportional to its commercial development. Local voters repeatedly complained about the uneven road surface, the outdated drainage system causing wastewater to stagnate and emit foul odors. Especially during peak hours, traffic congestion in the Tan An market area became a nightmare for residents.

Responding to voter feedback, in 2025, relevant authorities organized a comprehensive upgrade of the road. Ms. Nguyen Phi Nhan, Party Secretary and Head of Area 3, Ninh Kieu Ward, said that the completed upgrade not only addressed urban aesthetics but also resolved traffic bottlenecks. The drainage system was completely renovated, eliminating flooding and congestion, facilitating trade, and significantly improving business activities at Tan An Market.

The local road along the approach to the Can Tho Bridge has been upgraded, allowing for convenient traffic flow.

Tran Van Hoai Street, connecting two main thoroughfares, 3-2 Street and 30-4 Street, has also just been completed after a large-scale upgrade and expansion. The upgrade and expansion project of Tran Van Hoai Street, managed by the Ninh Kieu Area Investment and Construction Project Management Board, was officially completed in 2025. With its modern design, a 40m wide roadbed, 13m wide lanes on each side, and a solid median strip, the street now resembles a grand boulevard in the heart of the city. Ms. Tran Ngoc Anh, a food and beverage business owner on the street, happily said: “Previously, this street was frequently flooded during heavy rains and high tides. Thanks to the close attention and guidance of the city leaders, the street has been widened and the sidewalks are now clear. Business is much more convenient for the people here.”

The "bottleneck" situation has ended.

The story of Tran Phu Street (the section from Hung Vuong roundabout to Ho Tung Mau Street), Cai Khe Ward, takes on a different nuance – that of land clearance. This project was stalled for many years due to land disputes, creating a "bottleneck" section that detracts from the aesthetics and causes localized traffic congestion, leading to public dissatisfaction.

To definitively resolve this situation, the leaders of Cai Khe ward have implemented the motto "going door to door" to persuade residents. According to Mr. Bui Van Kiet, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cai Khe ward, the ward has assigned officials to understand the concerns and circumstances of each household in order to develop a fair and reasonable compensation and resettlement plan.

Persistence in community outreach has yielded positive results. Ms. Tran Kim Loan, a resident on Tran Phu Street, shared: "When we understood the significance of the road expansion, my family handed over nearly 30 square meters of land. By the end of January 2026, seeing the road no longer congested and traffic flowing smoothly and safely, I realize my decision was absolutely correct."

In Area 6, Cai Rang Ward, the local road along the Can Tho Bridge access road (from Cai Da Bridge to Ap My Bridge) used to be a nightmare for commuters. The road surface was previously full of potholes, posing a significant risk of traffic accidents. Mr. Nguyen Huu Tinh, a local resident, said: “In the past, I witnessed many accidents because of the poor road conditions. In 2025, the government invested in paving the road with asphalt and building proper drainage systems. Now, people can travel safely without worrying about mud and standing water.”

The completion of a series of upgrade and expansion projects on key roads – roads that had previously caused public dissatisfaction – is not just a story about technical infrastructure. It is proof of effective interaction between voters and elected representatives, and a manifestation of an action-oriented government that always puts the interests of the people first.
