Peanut oil... takes the throne

While the authorities have exposed a series of companies that make fake goods, especially food products, including animal feed oil that is turned into human consumption, shocking public opinion, in Nghi Duc commune, many people are still "loyal" to "homegrown" peanut oil, which is homegrown peanut oil, pressed for oil for use.

The peanut oil pressing facility owned by Mr. Phan Van Diem and Ms. Pham Thi Hong Van is located deep in an alley in Hamlet 2, but it's quite busy. Motorbikes entering carry several bags of unshelled, dry peanuts, while people leaving the alley carry 20-liter and 5-liter plastic containers of clear, golden peanut oil. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, who had just unloaded two bags of peanuts from his motorbike to take them into the pressing workshop, said: "My family has been pressing oil here for 20 years. The peanuts we grow aren't heavily sprayed with pesticides, so we're confident in eating them..." Accompanying Mr. Thang was Mr. Son, also bringing peanuts to be pressed. He explained that this oil pressing facility not only serves people in the commune but also those from neighboring communes. The facility only charges 8,000 VND per liter of finished product, so almost every household with land grows a few rows of peanuts to produce cooking oil. Besides having a source of pure peanut oil, many families also utilize the peanut residue from pressing to feed pigs, chickens, ducks, etc. This is a clean, nutritious food source, making it very good for livestock. Those who cannot grow peanuts buy oil from the facility. The oil is pressed on-site, and people can "touch" the peanuts before pressing and see the pressing process, so they feel very secure...

The peanut oil pressing facility owned by Mr. and Mrs. Diem covers approximately 450 square meters and is equipped with peanut shelling machines, oil presses, and an oil filtration system worth nearly 700 million VND. Because the production and processing follows a traditional family-run model, it is primarily seasonal, serving local communities. Ms. Hong Van stated: "The main peanut harvest season in the region is from March to June. During these months, the facility processes 1.5-1.8 tons of peanuts per day for local people, totaling approximately 50,000-70,000 tons for the entire season. The facility also purchases peanuts from local farmers for processing, producing about 40-50 tons, equivalent to approximately 20,000 liters of finished oil, which is sold on the market, mainly to local communities..."

According to Ms. Van, the demand for pure peanut oil is very high, especially recently when news broke about some facilities producing fake cooking oil, leading to a significant increase in orders from families to send to their children, grandchildren, and relatives far away. However, the family's production is within its capacity, so the supply only partially meets the needs of the local people and has not yet expanded to the wider market... Besides pressing oil, Mr. and Mrs. Diem also help local people purchase peanut seeds from reputable sources, ensuring high-quality seeds with high oil yield, so that farmers can achieve higher profits. Currently, in Nghi Duc commune and surrounding areas, most people use the Se peanut variety...

Mr. Phan Nhat Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghi Duc commune, said: "The Diem-Van peanut oil production and business has been operating traditionally for many years, passed down from father to son, and is highly trusted by the people in the commune. Besides pressing oil to provide local people with quality products for use, the facility also creates seasonal jobs for the people..."
