Practical livelihood models and flexible approaches have been affirming their own mark in the locality's journey of sustainable poverty reduction.
Ea Rieng Commune was established on the basis of merging Ea Rieng Commune (old) with Ea H'Mlay and Ea M'Doal, with a natural area of over 167 km², including 24 villages with nearly 16,000 people and 23 ethnic groups living together. The area is large, the population is scattered, and the poverty rate is high. However, in recent years, thanks to the synchronous implementation of many solutions, Ea Rieng has achieved many positive results in poverty reduction.
Immediately after the merger, the Commune People's Committee issued a Plan for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2025, identifying the overarching goal of rapid but sustainable poverty reduction and limiting re-poverty. Policies focus on livelihood support such as providing suitable seedlings and livestock, along with preferential credit, vocational training and on-site job creation.

To optimize efficiency, Ea Rieng applies the method of classifying poor households into three groups: A (with the will to rise up), B (average) and C (waiting, relying). For group A, the commune focuses maximum resources; group B is strengthened to mobilize and support to change business methods; and group C is regularly propagated to change awareness. This method helps support more accurately, contributing to improving efficiency in each task.
Mr. Ho Si Hoi’s family (village 20) is a poor household, lacking land for production. In early 2025, thanks to the livelihood support program, he was given 2 breeding cows. For Mr. Hoi, this is not only a source of material support but also a motivation to move towards sustainable poverty reduction.
Policy credit capital has also become an important "lever". Thousands of households have access to preferential loans, creating conditions for economic development. The case of Ms. Chu Thi Huong (village 10) is a clear example. With a loan of 90 million VND to create jobs in 2023, she invested in building barns, buying breeding cows and grafting to renovate 1 hectare of old coffee. From a place of poverty, her family has gradually become well-off.
Along with production support, social security policies are implemented synchronously. Programs to eliminate temporary housing, support electricity bills, provide free vocational training, give health insurance cards, scholarships, bicycles, etc. contribute to strengthening the social security foundation.

In addition, the commune focuses on replicating effective poverty reduction models associated with business linkages to ensure agricultural output. The irrigation system has been invested in, ensuring irrigation for more than 75% of the crop area, helping people feel secure in production. Thanks to the above efforts, the multidimensional poverty rate of Ea Rieng has decreased by more than 8% compared to 2024.
Chairman of the People's Committee of Ea Rieng Commune, Phan Duc Tho, said: "Practical policies, combined with appropriate methods, linked to the characteristics of the grassroots, have contributed to changing the face of the countryside and strengthening people's trust. In the coming time, the commune will continue to effectively promote the resources of national target programs, focusing on production development, vocational training, and job creation for young people, especially poor households lacking land for production, creating a premise for people to escape poverty with their own internal strength."
