Practical livelihood models and flexible approaches have been making their mark in the local area's journey towards sustainable poverty reduction.

Ea Riêng commune was established by merging the old Ea Riêng commune with Ea H'Mlay and Ea M'Doal communes. It covers a natural area of over 167 km², comprising 24 villages with nearly 16,000 inhabitants and 23 ethnic groups living together. The area is large, the population is scattered, and the poverty rate is high. However, in recent years, thanks to the comprehensive implementation of various solutions, Ea Riêng has achieved many positive results in poverty reduction.

Immediately after the merger, the People's Committee of the commune issued a plan for implementing sustainable poverty reduction in 2025, identifying the overarching goal as rapid but sustainable poverty reduction, and preventing re-poverty. Policies focus on supporting livelihoods such as providing suitable seedlings and livestock, along with preferential credit, vocational training, and creating local jobs.

Nearly 100% of the roads in the H'Mông ethnic minority villages in Ea Riêng commune have been paved with concrete and are in good condition.

To optimize effectiveness, Ea Riêng applies a classification system for poor households into three groups: A (those with a strong will to improve their lives), B (average), and C (those who are dependent and reliant on others). For group A, the commune focuses maximum resources; for group B, efforts are intensified to encourage and support changes in their livelihoods; and for group C, regular awareness campaigns are conducted to change their mindset. This approach ensures more targeted support, contributing to improved efficiency in each task.

Mr. Ho Si Hoi's family (village 20) is classified as a poor household lacking land for production. At the beginning of 2025, thanks to a livelihood support program, he received two breeding cows. For Mr. Hoi, this is not only a source of material support but also a motivation to move towards sustainable poverty alleviation.

Policy credit has also become an important "lever." Thousands of households have accessed preferential loans, enabling them to develop their economy . The case of Ms. Chu Thi Huong (village 10) is a clear example. Having received a 90 million VND job creation loan in 2023, she invested in building livestock pens, buying breeding cows, and renovating 1 hectare of old coffee trees. From a situation of constant hardship, her family has gradually become more prosperous.

Alongside production support, social welfare policies have been implemented comprehensively. Programs such as eliminating temporary housing, providing electricity subsidies, offering free vocational training, providing health insurance cards, scholarships, and bicycles contribute to strengthening the foundation of social security.

The family of Mr. Ho Si Hoi (village 20) received breeding cows from Program 1719.

Furthermore, the commune focuses on replicating effective poverty reduction models linked with businesses to ensure the market for agricultural products. The irrigation system has been invested in, ensuring water supply for over 75% of the cultivated area, helping people to produce with peace of mind. Thanks to these efforts, the poverty rate according to the multidimensional standard in Ea Riêng has decreased by more than 8% compared to 2024.

Chairman of Ea Riêng Commune People's Committee, Phan Đức Thọ, stated: "Practical policies, combined with appropriate approaches tailored to local characteristics, have contributed to changing the face of the rural area and strengthening the people's confidence. In the coming time, the commune will continue to effectively utilize resources from national target programs, focusing on developing production, vocational training, and creating jobs for young people, especially poor households lacking land for production, creating a foundation for people to escape poverty through their own efforts."
