9to5Google recently discovered a leaked video that has caused a stir in the tech community. While attempting to demonstrate a Chrome browser bug, a Google employee inadvertently recorded the entire screen of an unannounced operating system. 9to5Google confirmed that this is "Aluminium OS"—a platform believed to be the PC version of Android.

Based on the leaked video, Aluminium OS is not simply an Android upgrade for tablets. This operating system boasts an interface fully optimized for mouse and keyboard, bearing similarities to Windows 11 and macOS.

The biggest highlight is the Taskbar located at the bottom of the screen, with application icons centered, giving PC users a modern yet familiar feel.

At the top, the Status Bar displays typical Android information such as Wi-Fi, battery, and notifications. Notably, Google has deeply integrated artificial intelligence with a separate Gemini button, allowing users to activate the AI assistant with just one click.

For a long time, Google has maintained two operating systems: Android for mobile devices and ChromeOS for budget PCs. However, this leak reveals a strategic shift. Aluminium OS, running on Android 16, appears on an HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook (using an Intel chip).

This demonstrates Google's ambition to merge the power of Android with the capabilities of a PC. Notably, the Chrome browser on Aluminium OS is no longer a stripped-down mobile version but a full version, supporting extensions – the most important feature previously only available on PCs.

Leaked videos shared by Android Authority showcase flexible multitasking capabilities. Users can drag and drop, resize apps, and split-screen seamlessly. This window management system is considered far more professional than the rudimentary "Desktop Mode" found in previous Android versions.

If Aluminium OS is realized, users will have a lightweight operating system similar to Android, with access to a vast app store from the Play Store, yet still versatile enough to replace Windows laptops or MacBooks for everyday tasks. More official information about this project is expected to be revealed by Google at the Android 16 launch event later this year.
