"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" has a predictable plot, including the ending. From the moment the trailer was released, many viewers predicted the film's content, with the two super-monsters Godzilla and Kong teaming up to fight a new enemy.
The film's appeal, which draws audiences to theaters, lies in its focus on special effects and the fight scenes featuring super-powered monsters.
The return of two super monsters.
"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is directed by Adam Wingard, the creator of the hugely successful Godzilla vs. Kong film.
Speaking about the concept for the new film, Wingard said: “Once you’ve seen Godzilla and Kong have an epic battle in ‘Godzilla vs. Kong,’ the question is: ‘What’s next?’ Obviously, the answer has to be: an alliance of the two giant monsters. But you can’t let them ally too easily. Once you’ve set Godzilla and Kong up to ally, you can’t separate them anymore, but these two giant monsters don’t always get along…”
Centered around two super-monsters, director Adam Wingard and his team take the audience on an adventure to a new world – Hollow Earth. Here, many other titans exist, along with lurking dangers and mysteries surrounding ancient cultures.
In this section, the super-monsters have ample opportunity to showcase their abilities. The storylines involving the human characters are kept to a minimum.
Action Party
The biggest strengths of "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" are its special effects, grand scale, and numerous action sequences.
Not only is the setting expanded, but the main characters themselves undergo transformations, along with the appearance of villains.
Godzilla – the god of destructive power – undergoes an incredibly powerful energy transformation in the new installment, featuring pink spines and an atomic breath.
Meanwhile, Kong is equipped with a gauntlet – a detail closely related to the previous installment, alongside the appearance of new, vicious monsters.
The film features a significant amount of monster fight scenes, particularly many sequences that consist almost entirely of monsters growling and attacking each other without any human intervention. This innovative change proved effective for the project.
Reaching a younger audience
In this theatrical release, with changes to the film censorship and classification system updated last year, "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is rated K - audiences under 13 can watch the film with parental or guardian supervision, similar to the PG-13 rating of the film in its home market of North America.
With its K rating, the film is accessible to audiences under 13 years old in Vietnam.
On its opening day, March 28th, the film garnered an impressive number of viewers (over 100,000 people, with revenue of approximately 10 billion VND), making "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" the highest-grossing monster movie (kaiju) ever in Vietnam, as well as the highest-grossing kaiju at the Vietnamese box office for Warner Bros. Pictures.
