The Department of Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) recently announced tourism trends, according to which Vietnam is ranked 7th in the world and is the most attractive tourist destination in Asia. Along with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Da Nang continues to maintain and affirm itself as an attractive destination for foreign tourists. In the context of fierce competition in the global tourism industry and increasing demands and expectations of tourists, maintaining and promoting the image of a "safe, civilized and attractive tourist city" requires the cooperation, determination and continuous innovation from the government, businesses, communities and functional forces.
Safety and attractiveness are always prerequisites to attract and retain tourists. Da Nang has been doing a very good job of building the image of a safe, civilized, friendly and hospitable city, especially in key tourist areas such as: Ba Na Hills, Son Tra Peninsula,
Marble Mountains, My Khe and Pham Van Dong beaches... Especially, during peak seasons of festivals and international events, such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) or the APEC Summit Week 2017..., the city always leaves a good impression on leaders and domestic and foreign tourists thanks to its professionalism in organization and safety assurance.
Da Nang is known as a “livable city”, not only because of its beautiful natural landscape, but also because of the way the city knows how to renew itself. Landmark constructions such as the Han River Bridge, Dragon Bridge, Sun Wheel, Golden Bridge in Ba Na or the supervision and management of services at My Khe and Non Nuoc beaches... quickly put Da Nang on the world tourism map. The city also focuses on organizing international cultural and sporting events such as the International Marathon, DIFF, the “Wonderful Da Nang” festival or paragliding and surfing competitions... to create new and attractive experiences to retain tourists.
However, the “attractive” factor does not only come from magnificent works and events but also from quality tourism services, environmentally friendly experiences, unique cuisine and the hospitality of local people. Training professional tourism human resources, improving foreign language skills, service skills and handling situations are necessary for tourists to feel satisfied and want to return to Da Nang.
However, there are still cases of soliciting tourists, street vendors, etc., affecting the city's general tourism environment. Therefore, to build the image of Da Nang as "always attractive", the participation of the government, the tourism industry, and functional agencies is not enough, but requires the strong participation of both the community and businesses. Each Da Nang resident has been, is, and will be a "tourism ambassador" who is friendly, civilized in communication, conscious of protecting the environment, does not increase prices unreasonably, does not solicit tourists, does not litter indiscriminately, etc. The tourism business community must always be a pioneer in innovation, improving service quality, building new tourism products, linking tourism with culture, ecology, and community. Schools and training facilities for the "smokeless economy" need to strengthen links with businesses to provide practical training, meeting the demand for high-quality human resources. At the same time, it is necessary to continue to improve the management and supervision capacity and service spirit of the authorities, and have a close coordination mechanism between sectors, localities, businesses and the community to strictly handle violations that affect the tourism environment.
Building Da Nang into an “always attractive” tourist destination is not a temporary slogan but a long-term process, requiring perseverance and constant innovation. It is a journey to cultivate trust, arouse love for the city, preserve its identity and beautiful image in the eyes of domestic and foreign friends. Let every tourist leave Da Nang with a smile, a beautiful memory and a desire to return, that is the greatest success of the tourism industry of the city on the Han River today and tomorrow.
