As Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, Party committees, government agencies, and mass organizations in many localities actively mobilize resources to care for the people, including the Khmer ethnic minority.

The traditional Khmer New Year is Chol Chnam Thmay, but due to long-standing cohabitation with the Kinh and Chinese, many Khmer households in the province also celebrate the Lunar New Year. In areas with large Khmer populations such as the communes of O Lam, Tri Ton, An Cu, Ba Chuc, Giong Rieng, Go Quao, etc., during these days, people clean and tidy their houses, buy necessary items and clothes to prepare for the New Year.

This Lunar New Year, the family of Mr. Chau Da Vy, residing in Tri Ton commune, received financial support from the local government, organizations, and individuals to build a "House of Compassion for the People." Mr. and Mrs. Chau Da Vy have two young children. As the main breadwinner, he works various odd jobs daily. Emotionally, on the day of the house handover, Mr. Vy shared: "My family is very happy and grateful for the timely care and support from the local government. Having a new house before Tet is a great happiness and helps my family strive to improve our lives."

Thanks to the efforts of the Party Committee, the government, the Fatherland Front , and local organizations, many Khmer households received Tet gifts from organizations and benefactors. Ms. Neáng Sum, residing in An Hòa hamlet, Tri Tôn commune, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the concern shown by all levels and sectors. “The gifts not only have material value but also demonstrate the care and concern of the Party and the State for the people, especially the Khmer people. This is a great source of encouragement, helping my family celebrate Tet more warmly and joyfully,” said Ms. Neáng Sum.

According to Nguyen Hoai An, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tri Ton commune: “The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune mobilized the “Spring Tree” fund, donating more than 1,303 gifts, each worth 300,000 VND or more, to promptly support poor and near-poor households, policy beneficiary families, and other eligible individuals in the commune during the Lunar New Year of the Horse in 2026.”

An Cu commune is one of the localities with a large Khmer population. The entire commune has 4,345 Khmer households, accounting for 67.4%, mainly concentrated in 13 particularly disadvantaged hamlets. The local authorities regularly focus on caring for the material and spiritual well-being of the Khmer people, especially during holidays and festivals. According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Cu commune, the commune actively mobilizes resources from organizations, individuals, businesses, and philanthropists to donate 3,410 gifts to poor and near-poor households, households with difficult circumstances, and policy beneficiaries, including the Khmer people.

Through organizing fundraising and gift-giving activities, we have made a practical contribution to boosting morale and supporting the lives of the people, especially disadvantaged households and the Khmer ethnic minority, helping them celebrate the Lunar New Year joyfully, warmly, safely, and economically.
