To ensure students get to school safely.

Việt NamViệt Nam24/10/2024

Preventing injuries, drowning, and ensuring health and traffic safety are major issues of concern to the entire society, especially for students. Therefore, implementing comprehensive measures to minimize injuries and traffic accidents among students is a crucial issue that relevant authorities at all levels are focusing on.

In the early days of the 2024-2025 school year, due to the influence of the remnants of Typhoon No. 3, many localities and schools were affected by storms and floods, disrupting teaching and learning at many schools and educational institutions. According to the Education Department's summary, the entire province had 194 schools with damaged property, including 60 schools with roofs blown off, 23 schools flooded, and 406 trees on school grounds felled.

Youth union members and young people are assisting in overcoming the consequences of storms and floods in Ha Hoa district.

In Ha Hoa district, 13 schools suffered damage to their perimeter walls, roofs, and teaching equipment, while 6 schools were severely flooded. Some schools that were less affected were repurposed as assembly points for evacuation and relocation to ensure the safety of the people. The storm also isolated many families or required emergency evacuation for safety, significantly impacting the health and psychology of students and their families. With the support and assistance of functional forces and various agencies and organizations, Ha Hoa district is urgently implementing measures to mitigate the consequences of the storm, creating safe conditions for students to return to school.

Ms. Tran Thi To Tham, Principal of Ha Hoa Town Kindergarten, said: "With the support and assistance of agencies, units, and colleagues at schools in the town, the school mobilized 100% of its staff and teachers to quickly implement measures to restore facilities and clean up classrooms and schoolyards. At the same time, we disinfected the entire school grounds, ensuring a clean environment and preventing the outbreak and spread of diseases after the floods."

This year, schools in the mountainous district of Tan Son were not flooded or cut off as much as in Ha Hoa; however, the risks of accidents, injuries, and drowning for students remain ever-present. Therefore, local authorities and schools in the district have implemented many measures to ensure the safety of students attending classes.

Due to the hilly terrain and the presence of the Mang and Than streams, transportation in Dong Son commune, Tan Son district, is quite complex, with over 10 spillways and one bridge. The commune has three schools at the preschool, primary, and secondary levels, as well as a preschool branch in the Ben Than area. While the schools are relatively unaffected by natural disasters due to recent construction, during the rainy season, the large volume of water overflowing the spillways significantly impacts the children's ability to attend school.

Comrade Ha Thanh Giap, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Son commune, said: Alongside regular propaganda and reminders about ensuring traffic safety and preventing accidents, injuries, and drowning among children, the local authorities have mobilized forces such as the police, military , security and order teams, and community officials to guide and escort children across bridges and spillways during rainy and stormy days. In cases of heavy rain and danger, these forces will set up checkpoints to prevent adults and children from crossing spillways on their own, ensuring safety. At the same time, the local authorities have also reviewed and placed warning signs at several points with a high risk of landslides to alert people when participating in traffic, and have encouraged the relocation of households to safe areas.

Safety risks from natural disasters like storms and heavy rain have a significant impact, affecting many people, but they are temporary and sudden. Conversely, ensuring safe traffic participation for students, which happens daily, is a top priority for families and schools.

Mr. Bui Dinh Trung (Gia Cam ward, Viet Tri city) shared: "The hours when students go to and from school are also peak hours, the roads are crowded, however, some students drive very recklessly, lack observation, and carry three people... These students have never received any driving training, lack the skills and experience to operate vehicles, so it is very dangerous. On the other hand, students cannot afford to buy their own vehicles, therefore, when students violate the Road Traffic Law, a large part of the responsibility lies with the parents and family..."

Lam Thao District Police disseminated legal information to students at Phong Chau High School.

This year, traffic police forces throughout the province will simultaneously launch a campaign to ensure traffic safety for students in October 2024. This includes taking action against violations of the Road Traffic Law and regulations on traffic safety by students, as well as those who provide vehicles to students who do not meet the requirements to operate them, violations of regulations on road safety corridors, and other actions that pose a risk of accidents to students.

Traffic police forces will also coordinate with localities and schools to strengthen propaganda on strictly complying with the Road Traffic Law among parents and students, thereby increasing the responsibility of parents, schools, and teachers towards students; creating a link between schools and families.

Besides solutions from relevant agencies and localities, close and regular coordination is needed in educating, reminding, and strengthening management and guidance on safety skills for students. This will contribute to protecting the physical and mental health of students, so that "every day at school is a happy day."
